Anyone know what is the highest power diode on their respective package? It is good to assemble some sort of table to refer to, for everyone to keep track of the latest in laser diode development and maybe there is possibility to source those diode for our own project and curiosity :)
Everyone that have some info can post in this thread and first post will be modified accordingly.

I imagine about what the table looks like:

Wavelength     Perceived Color     Packaging     Mode     Power output     Reference Article
  660nm  Red 5.6mm (T18) Pulsed
  406nm Violet 5.6mm (T18) Pulsed   210mW   http://www.sharp-world.com/corporate/news/070314.html
  808nm     IR  C-Mount  CW 5W
  808nm     IR 9mm (T05)     CW   1W

Ups. I guess this is posted in the wrong forum. Can moderator please help moving it to the appropriate forum? THank you :)

Re: Highest power Diode

I think it depends if you just want to have one of every diode for a collection, or if you actually want impressive output, especialy for cutting/burning.

I believe many of the high output diodes do so by simply increasing the emitter area. It gets to the point where it's very difficult to focus and collimate it into a tight beam that will actually concentrate all the light energy.

Re: Highest power Diode

What I mean is highest rated output power of the diode on the mode they are designed for, regardless of the beam size. For beam size, we just need to employ optics to modified beamsize, divergence, etc.

I disagree. There are physical limitations to beam size, divergence, etc, and they vary depending on the type of diode. You can't get a single-mode diode 808nm diode in 1W, but you can get a multi-mode. Even with theoretically perfect optics, the single-mode will have beam specs FAR better than the multi-mode.

Also, the package would just be an issue of demand really. Fundamentally they all just use a diode chip and theres no reason you couldn't make a c block/can/etc in the same power, but there may be different demand issues coming into play there.

I also don't think counting pulsed is really fair since you can overdrive any of the other CW diodes during a quick pulse, but that's not really indicative of their output.

For the 5W c block you can use snoclaser as your reference - they offer some 5Ws.

For reds I'm not sure how high they have been made, but I've seen 660nm modules in excess of 1W and 635nm up to 500mW

So what column should be added? I just want the highest rated power for each form factor, so we have easy table to refer to on what is the latest highest power available on the laser diode, especially on small packages that can be used to replace our beloved pointer (T05 - 9mm, T18 - 5.6mm, C-mount)
As far as I know, the highest power for IR 808nm CW T05 packaging is 1W. Anyone knows about highest power available for other packaging specified above, and other color wavelength?
