No one knew he was looking for a pre-built laser until his last post :p

Also, the 635nm cmounts are multimode, which is very ugly to try collimate. I wouldn't recommend touching the c-mount reds unless you have the right optics for the job, it's not as simple as gluing them to the back of an Aixiz module.

Does this pretty much rule out a custom-built high-powered 635, or is there anybody who can sort out the optics to give a decent beam?

I can't believe no one mentioned Glenn! Scopeguy has a top notch reputation here, hes literally the man when it comes to getting what you want. He has a great relationship with CNI and I believe they offer exactly what your looking for. They cherry pick his lasers so everything is over-spec. Check the group buy section and this link.

Many thanks. I will contact him - though I am guessing that a 200mw+ 635 from CNI won't be exactly cheap ;-(

The CNI PGL III -C- 635 nm (rated 100 mW), portable laser is a possibility, (cost is <$400 iirc), but the beam is not small, it's about 2x 6 mm at aperture, and in 1 feet or so it's about 10 x 10 mm so, with this shape of beam, most folks are not really into it. Also I understand at higher output rating Wicked Lasers will be offering the Spyder III red laser but longer wavelength and similar beam shape. Thanks!, and Best Wishes! -Glenn
