Help with first build

Hi guys.

I'm new in the world of lasers but i got my plan .
I have some little questions. Sooo i want to make this one :

Tomorrow i'm getting an old dvd burner from a friend from which i will extract the diode.
In the video he uses this aixix module :

At my point of knowledge i have to solder the diode on the ,,driver" of the module.
so change the 5mw diode with my dvd diode is this right until there?
next point is : is this everything? because in the video he doesn't do anything else just put in 2 AA batteries. don't i need anything between the power source and the module?
another point is how do I know whether the aixix module is compatible for my dvd burner diode. or doesn't this play a role?
The last point is the current of the 2 AA batteries. how do they relate to the power off the dvd diode?

Okay, first off, Kipkays "hacks" often don't work, and are just plain old wrong. In this one he does not use a driver for the laser. This "hack" will leave you with a non-working laser. You need a driver to keep the current going to the diode even. If you don't use one the diode will die very quickly.

If you wish to build a working laser, look at the forums.
