and you can collimate it, so its a dot at all distances, just doesnt burn.

how do i collimate it?

k so one last time. The way its setup right now is for burning but if i want a straight beam for distances, it wont burn?

Not really, you can by adjusting it far away eventually get it so the beam is pretty much the same size as the aperture for a fair while.

just focus it to a small dot a long distance away, and voila, it will be about the same size dot no matter how far or close you point it.

to get optimal burning power, you must focus it to the smallest dot possible at that distance.

Think of it as an advantage that your laser is focusable

got it all figured out! ;D Its a 350mw beam that can do 550mw with a different driver and using 7v instead of 4.5v
Right now i can light a match and pop balloons 35ft away and burn through a cd case in 3 seconds 1ft away.

Im gunna make a new heatsink for it and try for 500mw.
Ohh, got my glasses too. I think its alot neater seeing the beam with the glasses on than off.

How do you know the laser is putting out 350mW? I highly doubt that.

he most likely means mA

he prolly has an open can diode and is running it at 350mA. Dont run it at 500, you will kill it. stay at 420, its safer. oh, and more mA does not = more power essentially, you will have better performance at 420.

I got my 200mw diode in today with some aixiz housings and did the burn the cd case test.

my 350mw takes 3 seconds or less to burn through a cd case
my 200mw takes 15 seconds to go through.

and yes the 350 is open can pioneer 22x. It was tested at 349ma actually before shipment. Both are running 4.5v through them with a driver board.

your "200mW" is most likely a 100 to 150 mW like the senkat diodes, and your "350mW" is an open can from a 20x pioneer running at 350mA, thus giving out ~200mW. if your lucky and have good heatsinking, you might be able to reach 300mW with that thing

BTW, I have an open can at 420mA, which is about 280mW, and yes, that burns through a CD case in around 1.5 to 2 seconds
