I like the rocket launch switch :)

That screw is one of the most bizarre things i've ever seen - what on earth is that good for? It looks like its powered up when you turn the laser off, but not connected to anything - mystery decoy component?!

It is supposed to be the ground component to connect to the switch. Although, if that is unnecessary, I will call it my magical ward against diode death and overheating. I will name it "Myrlennsvr" and he shall guard the circuitry and prevent Balrogs and the like from entering by shouting "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!!!"

By the way, I just noticed from this pic...

IMG_6932.jpg

... that your Aixiz module and LD give exactly the same strange line through your dot when focused as I got when I was testing my first DDL breadboard driver with a harvested dvd-writer diode.

That was part of the reason I decided to buy a brand new set of Rohm diodes for my first build in the first place.

Anyone know why this happens?

Not sure as to the reason behind the line. My rayfoss waterproof 200mW has the same line. And just to clarify, the wall I shone it on was painted red; THAT IS NOT SPLASH. Lol, actually, the dot coming from this laser is impressively clean, minus the strange line of course.

Like all the above, love the rocket thing over your switch!
Nice first build! We all gotta start somewhere!
Gotta see it popping balloons and such now...

Will get some tomorrow for yall. The fam decided they wanted to go bowling, and then after that I had work so left me know time for Lasing. :( But tomorrow I should have about 3 hours free so I'll get those together and add them to the OP below the first video.

The lines are wings, caused by internal lens reflections. Normal for this type of LD.

^Confirmed. Normal for 16x like this, LOCs, LCCs and similar...

Sometimes they are more or less noticeable depending on what lens you're using too. Older, standard Aixiz acrylic lenses have a narrower aperture between the LD and lens which can shorten the wings and clean up some of the splash but it was common practice to open the aperture up to gain a few mW of output. This also showed the wings more clearly.

It's certainly not a defect of the LD anyway.

Success! It pops balloons and light matches (I think, the vid cut off!)!

Nice results anyhow!

Ya, it lit the matches, just focusing while holding a camera and a match is tricky ;)

Hey wannaburnstuff, next time you're posting pics can you make them 800 x 600 please, because I, (and others), have to scroll left and right to read the full text. It's why the site asks for that size. It's hard to ask for that and not look like I'm b*tching but I ain't! ;)

Thanks,

M

Thanks for trying. Here's one of the pics from the first post and it's perfect for viewing at my end -

xao0gp.jpg

What I did was save it, (it said it was 1024 x 768), and then uploaded it to my pic server and resized it as I uploaded it. Maybe you have to upload it as a resized pic?

hmmm....I could try that but don't you need like photo editing software to do that?

Well, I went ahead and just linked to the photobucket thread that way it isn't an overload for everyone else. Left one of them up tho, hope that is okay. :p In the future I will figure out how to edit the pictures before I upload them.

Peace,
Isaac

I have complained about wide posts for a long time . Now I decided that I won't scroll. I doubt I'll miss anything anyway. I resize my pix 4x6 and compress with photo shop.
