Hey guys, I was looking at building a laser myself and I've never done it before so I am seeking advice from those more knowledgeable than myself and was wondering if anyone had any laser pointers (haha) on this project? I am looking for red laser, somewhere around 650nm with output of around 400w. I see most of what I will be needing but if someone has some free time and could break down all that I need and suggestions for parts it would be appreciated.

I'm guessing you meant 400mW?

Best place to get started would be to use the search function for 650nm and browse through to find threads about similar power levels to what you are looking to build.

This looks like a pretty good option but your are probably not going going to get 400mW of output. But whats great about these diodes is that they are single mode meaning that the beam will diverge much much slower than something like the high power blue or Mitsubishi red diodes.

Single mode will also be a big help for burning at longer ranges.

For hosts look at the options from survival laser or check around the forum if you want a really fancy one.

Basically what you need.

Diode Module (Diode inside the module with the correct lens)
Host: Again, check around survival laser, you can buy host kits with the heat sink included or buy a C6 casing and but the heat sink separately which is cheaper.
Driver: Survival laser has a selection of drivers which fit the aurora c6 and other hosts that have a 16.8mm or so diameter. (This goes in the back of the pill)
Batts: depending on what kind of driver you get, you will need different batteries, if you choose a buck driver you will need 2 lithium cells and a boost driver will need 1 lithium cell. A C6 can hold 2 16340's no problem. But be careful, there are plenty of bad/fake lithium batteries out there.

SAFETY GLASSES!

Pretty sure thats it, make sure you have a few bits of wire and heatshink, and a soldering iron, cant twist and tape in a handheld :p

That diode is pretty sick. Barely any abnormalities in the beam quality.

Just pick one up and replace the lens with jay's 650nm coated g-1 for more power.

Don't forget safety glasses!
