Hi all, I have successfully build my first red laser :).
I have got the module with driver from DTR. It is really nice!
First I wasn't shure if to build a red one, because ths is the classic laser color.
But I think it was a good idea ^^.
The output is something between 485mW and 515mW I think. I don't have a LPM.
The diode is multimode, and has a really ugly dot :D. But damn, it's powerfull.
Focused it burns like hell :eg:

Time for some pics:
This is the module in the heatsink. It doesn't fit complete inside. It's a pitty. But I think the heatsink is doing it's job very well because it is out of aluminium and the module is really tight inside it. The most of the thermal paste was pushed out when I pushed the module inside it.
I build it myself ^^

This is everything together. The host is made out of an old flashlight.
It looks really ugly in my opinion but the heatsink fits EXACTLY in the top of it. What a coincidence isn't it ^^ ? I have made the batterypack out of two AA battery holders and some Aluminium foil.

I didn't had any other host so I had to take this. First I didn't want to take it because my order from cajunlasers should come this week, but I couldn't wait for it so I took this. After finishing the build and taking the first pics, the mailman came and my order from cajunlasers was here.
So the mailman successfully trolled me.... But i think this build is still great too ^^.

... and a second one

...a third one will there be too:

Here is a pic with my spartan 1W 445nm from dragonlasers. The color combination looks amazing :D It's a pitty that I don't have a fog machine :(

And the last one is the raw output of the diode:

I hope you like it! :)
Cheers

Superb laser!! H/s is badass~ you should sand up the front surface to a smooth finish and polish it..

Thanks, yeah the heatsink is enormous ^^. I could sandblast it, but i don't get the module out of there anymore :/. So I think it is quite ok :)

btw: it isn't my first build, it is just my first red one ;)

Build is not very aesthetic, however appropriate, functional - for 1/2 watt of extremely bright red! Unfortunate these diodes are not single mode, the spot is huge.

Yep I agree Nice Build! And either your hands are really small or it it HUGE! :D I would just get an orbital sander and polish that face up nice. You can get a lapping kit to pollish CPU heatsinks to a mirror shine and I'm sure that would work for you. Take it down to 2000 grit it would look great!
