Just a thought...........................I don't think you should pay $146. for "a host"!
You may be able to re-sell it & get $120. back? or just keep it for awhile until you build your own custom.

There's no reason to start thinking about rebuilding it.  It is fine.  It is just not 300mW.  By the looks of the diode, it is probably the same one used in the 16X burners.  You probably have 200mW, tops, there.  Use it as a fine, well built, burner.  IF . . . I said IF if burns out, only THEN should you start thinking about rebuilding it.  If you just want a 300mW laser, there are several tutorials about how to build one in this forum.  You can build it for much less than $146.  However, you are NOT going to "see" much of a difference between 200mW and 300mW.  I recommend you just enjoy the laser you have.  If you want more, build a new one.

well i've been thinking about this stuff for few days


im going to get a industrial technician specializing in machinery to build me another one of those golden things, that way i can just switch diodes :D

so for 3.7 V and 2200 mAh, what diode would you recommend to get MORE power, i wanna go as high as possible

The highest power red diodes available cheaply to hobbyists are the long-die open-can diodes. you can get them now-ish in the groupbuy section of this sight.

I take it the 3.7V and 2200mAh are the designations of the battery? Either way, you'll also need a driver to drive the new laser diode as well.

Honestly, it wouldn't be much more expensive to just make another laser with the higher-powered diode than it would by to make this diode "switchable", but it does look easy enough to just make a new heaksink-driver-diode unit to plug in with a new diode and new driver. Not sure what driver you would need, possibly Dr.Lava's driver available in the stickies of the buy/sell/trade section?

So you could either make it switchable, or spend a little more money and have 2 lasers. Either way, good luck.

For the battery source you have, I would recommend you get a drlave drive

Drive the current up to about 480mA.  That should get you really close to 300mW, depending on what the lens is, that is in the unit
