Ok DID i do somethign worng ???

i connected the pointer @ 5v USB instead of those intense expensive CR2 batts so ok 5 volt and it puls about 270mA ( total current ) so WTF ?!?

3 min later plop dim and still is dim

Can you give some details on how exactly you connected it to USB? Did you connect directly to the driver?

yes the + on the + , - on the - and it shined just a little bit lower than than normal cuz it was on 5 V and not 6
driver did not went HOT or started to smell like burned circuitboard
( you know that smell )
so i really dunno , my guess is that the 200 mW was already FAR over spec

and only today i connected it to the USB output before i was just playing with it on batts CR2 till they suddenly ran out of power
( as expected they don't last long )

oh and i don't think that the USB 5 volt is super unstable IMO all those USB devises sens. stuff
i don't think that the usb blew up the pointer

pure the diode died cause it still pulled 270mA total just as with the 2 CR2 batts

now it's just a 2.5 ~5 mW red pointer lol...

Another tragic case of diode abuse and death.

These laser diodes are very fussy little creations, and require some sort of regulated power supply to ensure a long life. Just plugging them 'into the mains' is not a good idea.

Do some reading around here.

I connected the whole thing on the USB power of my pc , not the diode
i thought a driver supposed to keep the Voltage and Current smooth... GUESS not with the Dilda

I`ve bought about 15 units and with one of them happened exactly the same. But using CR2 batteries. Another time, a client put batteries in the inverse way and it fried the driver, but I repaired it. I think it was the (batteries inverse) protection, because that got extremely hot and unsoldered by itself because of that. I soldered that again and worked fine. You could try using another similar diode to give some use to that nice host. GL

It's a $20 laser, you can't expect too much out of it!

If you refer to my post I quoted "weeba2kv" and the initial post.

If I quoted your post it would of been directed at you.
