I have a Philips DVD-RW drive that I harvested for the diodes. Is it common for these drives to have two laser diodes in them? Is one a burning laser and the other is not? How can you tell them apart?

The laser diodes have these CHARACTERS on them:

Diode #1: 51243HC8C
Diode #2: J8H353Z

Thanks!

Yep, you are right that one is IR and the other is the red burner.
Telling them appart could be a little tricky. Are they both closed can
or is one open can? If you post the model number and speeds of the
drive we would have more to go off of. Pictures of the diodes might help too.
