i see in the comments on the first vid that you are not using a driver, thats not good, get out of that habit! if you plan on making a 2w 445 ever, a driver is crucial, the $3 buck one from DX is 100x better than no driver. but of course that wont work on red diode.

Wow, no driver & most probably no eye protection.

This build wont be alive for long based on a few things.

1. the heatsink seems to be made out of coiled rope.
2. 560mA it was too high.
3. Direct driven means there is no control over current.
4. As the diode heats up the LD will pull more current.

There are videos of my laser:

DVD burner laser burns hole in white paper and ignites red matches - YouTube

DVD burner laser burns various objects (ignites firework and cuts match in a half/slices duct tape) - YouTube

This laser outputs nearly 300mW/650nm with standard acrylic Aixiz lens. The diode came from GGW-H20L sled. It's powered by 3 AAA sized 1,2V 1000mAh Ni-MH cells and delives with full charged batteries 560mA to diode.

Nice burning Laser..
If you quote powers you will need to state how you
tested it and with what LPM or show a power graph..

I know the current is too high but the output power is relatively high ! :D

For this burning effects I think this laser outputs ABOUT 300mW (or less or more). I doesn't have LPM ;/ They are too expensive ;(

I wouldnt be claiming powers without a LPM graphs!

the "Poland Laser Team" surely would have a LPM tho...

The "Poland Laser Team" isn't any organisation, but is contrived by me identificator where I'm from :D

well back to fiddy's point, the heatsink is made out of rope. :D this would maybe be ok for a lower powered laser like a 5mw,maybe up to a 30mw (i also assume you dont have glasses like fiddy said) please read the thread http://laserpointerforums.com/f51/i-want-build-laser-thread-52972.html to build a proper laser, also you need glasses for anything above 5mw, some people don't follow this rule but it's a rule for a reason

NO, rope is glued to metal heatsink under that, rope is for decoration. Yes you guessed I don't have safety glasses, they are too expensive but I'm using cheap sunglasses which protects my eyes too.

sunglasses wont do anything :) atleast buy a $5 pair from ebay because those will actually protect pretty good (if you buy a good pair) i know some members like laserbee maybe did testing with cheapie ones and they did very well actually.

and about the rope change that! if there is heatsink under the rope than you might aswell take it out b/c where your rope is located is right where all the heat is and the heatsink is supposed to be there to draw it away, also where your heatsink is now is where your driver is supposed to be.
BTW im being pretty nice about eye safety (everyone loves it here, you only get 2 eyes :D)
 Justin
and if you still have not i would suggest you to read http://laserpointerforums.com/f51/i-want-build-laser-thread-52972.html

-driver is a must or it will not live long
-sunglasses are not laser goggles
-rope cover blocks heat escape
-sunglasses are not laser goggles

Other than that it looks cool and works well but I really suggest a couple changes and you will have a solid laser and keep your eyes working well too.

and i am not trying to discourage you, this could be very nice if you fixed a few things. just a driver is a must and laser glasses. also where did you learn to do what you have made, if it was from kipkays channel then just dont watch anymore of his laser vids!
shoutout to kipkay i know your here but your hiding, but stop showing innocent people how to make a laser the wrong way :)
