DTR 650nm single mode... red/IR combo diode from BDR-206?

I was looking around to find out what to call the diode in my C6-650 and it looks like it could be the diode from the BDR-206 blu-ray/DVD/CD combo drive, which happens to be an IR/red combination diode. Open can diode, too.

Is this still the case, that it's a combo diode? The diode I bought from DTR is open can and looks like the ones I've seen in photos.

Anybody know how many IR mW one of these can put out? I assume it's 780nm single mode. If the IR power is similar to the 650, might be interesting to do a C6-780 build to go with the other single-mode wavelengths.

If I recall, the IR would utilize a common pin with the 650 but the other pin would be the unused one. So you have three pins. One is shared, the others are unique to the wavelength.

Subbing to see what the word is on this though.

That's my understanding as well, there is a common pin and then one for the 650 and a second for the IR.

I looked at the back of the diode just now and I do see three pins, but other than that I can't see much. The unused pin doesn't look like a typical case pin, i.e. metal pin directly to metal case; it looks like it might be isolated, but I really can't tell. Too small, and there's some epoxy-like junk partially covering the base of the pin.

It sounds like a small open can. Here is a pinout (from the All Diodes Data in One Thread thread).

It doesn't necessarily apply to a dual diode, but here is a little nugget about 784nm.
