hey drew. my mm doesn't have that setting. it reads like the pic i posted. and the dial is the setting i use for mv.

here it is

The setting you are on will measure up to 199mv (199ma), for a red laser you are going to be looking to use the next setting up, 1.999v (1999ma) that should bring you safely into the range of the red diode. I would guess that on that setting the screen would have displayed something like [- 1] which indicates over range.

i am using a blu ray. I was trying for 112mv. but that blew my diode. I held a memorial in the blu ray section. (it was a beautiful service) :'(
