does any one know how many amps it takes to power a laser diode, also how many ohms without a pot ohm.
in total

I'm not sure what you mean about "many ohms without a pot ohm. in total"... that's not really a question or even a properly constructed sentence.

As far as current draw for red laser diodes goes, each diode is different. A generic <5mW laser pen you buy at the dollar store will require much less current than a 20x DVD burner laser diode.
Here is a graph showing current input to optical output for several different diodes found in popular DVD burners.

As far as your question about resistance goes, again, I'm not sure what you mean... in fact, I'm not sure *you* know what you mean... but anyways, you'll want to use a current regulator circuit to drive the laser... a popular and easy to make driver can be found here. Current regulators are adjusted by changing the resistance across two of its terminals, but it will vary based on what driver you're using and what current you want it to output.

So to summarize:

it depends.
