Ok, folks here is my DIY red burner.

Power source: 1x AA 1.5v

Current to Diode: <220mA using Lithium, 200mA using NIMH
V in 1.3V I in 770mA, V out 2.45V I out 220mA using Lithium
Diode: LG 16x Dual Layer DVD Burner
Dimensions: 90mm x 20mm

Weight: 51G include Lit Battery

It can burn through a CD case in 13-14 seconds.

how on earth did you get enough voltage out of a single AA thats normally 1.5v?

because there are those of us that would love to do this one other 1AA flashlights.(i'm one of them)

Battery life doesn't matter to me, size does.

most 1 AA flashlight i bought from DX archane have voltage boosters the give me 3v from 1 AA but even and 300mA its a horibble burner i got a match to light from max 10inches they suck i hate to say it unless you buy a good boost regulator

Yes, for Alkaline batteries, :'(Lithium should last 4-5 times longer

and NIMH 3 times longer at lease.

Battery life doesn't matter to me, size does.

A driver is used to step up the voltage.

The circuit board I got from DX SKU #4735

(mine look different than pictured)

By looking at the pictures from DX site i can see that it uses a voltage multiplier IC 2106f

the rest of the circuit is probably a AC power generator, voltage multipliers need ac power.

OK for those that wanna use a 1aa flashlight host you can get AA sized rechargable lithium ion's. they are at deal extreme and are a 14500. AA sized 3.4v

This circuit is for [highlight]1.5v AA[/highlight] only. Please see the first post. [highlight]DO NOT[/highlight] use other battery.

I am intrigued by boost circuits. However I do like constant current regulation, meaning the current will stay the same as the voltage drops. This can be done by using an AMC7135 and a single AA li-ion battery.

Now I will admit using a boost circuit is ideal for people that do not want to fool with li-ion for whatever reason. I would like to know how much current is being supplied to the diode with 1 volt. I suspect it is going to be a big difference in comparison to 1.2 volts.

BTW, that is a very nice build you have there.
