I used the driver rkcstr (180mA) with a Sony SLD1239JL-54 16X DVD Burner Diode. The host is a flashlight pen with an aluminum body. The positive I used 8mm DX magnets and negative is the ground body. I used glass lens from StoneTek.

30s of duty cycle!

Any suggestions for improvement?

I can solder the negative pin with case pin of the PHR-803T to use the same host?

Hug,
Andre

Nice build andrelcg ;), Looks sweet to me. You can't really recess the module and deeper so that would be my only suggestion because of the two batts.

Great soldering joints there, good idea with the magnets, never thought of that ;)

Well I can't remember the pinout for the 16x DVD diode you used, but the PHR's pins are both separated from the case initially. So by soldering one of them to the case pin you can make the diode case positive or case negative. So I guess you can make it the same as the 16x diode and then build the thing exactly the same.

I have a pen build basically same setup except mine is at 300 ma and running 160 mw's :p

Edit: I also add a spot of jb weld to the other side of driver board oposite the ld pin connection
to be sure that over time the flexing of the board doesn't break ld connection loose at solder joints

That's my fear too! I thought in epoxy resin!
