I would buy but but wont pay that much shipping.

Proly going to take that dvd drive apart while I wait for my X65 to get back.

I just got done pulling apart a HP dvd laptop drive. In it is two different styles of lasers. Open can and closed can. The doggone open one has got like 15 wires going into it. Wtf? anyone tell me how to get the open one to work/.?? here is a picture.

That one with 15 wires may be the sensor (reader) traveling along side of the LD. There isn't much space inside one of those.

Oh, that's what you meant by the open can one... ok... that's definitely not a diode...

The diodes he has listed are for 8X burners, so I don't know how good they would be. I suppose they would be good for something..lol. If they are anything like I pulled from my Sony burner I don't think they will be very impressive. But who knows? On the other hand if you can get diodes that were made for 20X DVD burners, they should be a little better than the one I am using now which I pulled from a 16X DVD burner. And this diode so far is good....knocks on wood.

Yeah - the ones I have coming to me are from a 20x dvd burner...

I like the sound of that! I don't want to buy five like the auction says so it would be nice to get only one or two. Maybe I will have some money left after I buy my X105 lol.

Well I really like the sound of that. I can't wait until you can posts your test results. I would think 20X DVD diodes would be darn impressive.

actually that is a diode. I hooked up power to the two wires that are normal wires on the back of it and low and behold when viewed through a webcam I get an intense bloom of IR light. Now the problem is, getting it mounted in something that will enclose it like the aixiz module and putting a lens on it. If you take off the black plastic thing all you see is a piece of glass. Will show you!

My wife and I were thinking about building a couple of DIY reds.  These diodes may be just what we're looking for, SenKat. :)

I think I might get one too SenKat... Hard to say at this point. Thing is if I get an IR laser I don't need such expensive eyewear, but then I don't get the eye *candy*. ;D Lasers are such a small niche hobby for me. :-[
