That's the same picture, and the same company I bought from...

It must be the same lens.

Ok, ill have to trust you on this one ;) I hope I get as much power increase as you got... that would be awesome!

First message the seller and ask them if they are the AR coated lenses for AixiZ modules...

Unless they used the same picture for different lenses, they are the same.

1. what does it mean "AR"? stand from: Anti Reflective coated lens ...?

2. I take a look over Meredith website. Their prices are prohibitive! can somebody post a link to Meredith glass lens? maybe i am looking at the wrong website.

3. as i understood, the order is:
aixiz acrylic lens (act as reference)
aixiz glass lens (increase aixiz above with less the 10%)
virtual village plastic lens (+10-15%)
Meredith glass lens (+20%)
is that correct?

Pretty close, except the AixiZ glass is not 10% more power over the AixiZ acrylic. More like 5% max. At least in my experience.

Also, this applies to red diodes...

There are different anti-reflective coatings as well. IgorT will be doing a group buy on some AR coated Glass lenses for 405nm very soon. These will be fit for AixiZ modules and be the best choice for blu-ray! I believe he will have a multi-coated option that will work with reds as well.

Here's Meredith's site:
http://www.mi-lasers.com/cgi-bin/shopper.cgi?search=action&keywords=diode_optics

The Meredith glass lens is AR coated, but because of it's 'short focus' design, it is positioned very close to the diode. This is the main reason it will give more power with both red and blu-rays! ;)

duh... is the same link i visited before my post. 35$ for Meredith module with glass lens, is very expensive and in my opinion does not worth if power is increased just with 10-20% compared with aixiz module which cost  almost 10 times less.

thanks,

sorry, i spent 2 days to reading above thread and after 20 pages i give up. to much jabber, no conclusions, very confusing. also at the end of this thread, no conclusins too, just posters asking about "blu ray lens - group by" thread which does not exist!

All i can find, is a link (still valid - virtual village seller):
http://cgi.ebay.com/Plastic-Collima..._Components_Supplies_ET?hash=item350117036998

Are this lens for red diodes? Are the same with the one rated above "virtual village plastic lens (+10-15%)" or with "multi-coated option that will work with reds as well".

What will be aproximative price for blue ray (405nm) lens? Which one will be available (there are 7-8 models, no one having cvorum)...

You will never get 10 times the power from a lens that costs 10 times more.... like the Meredith...
and IgorT's lenses will be even more expensive (though even better)...

I repeat... you will NEVER get 10 times the power from a lens that costs 10 times more....  :'(

BTW... to get ALL the information available in a thread..... You need to read almost ALL the posts
in a thread... ::)

I'm sorry it was too much work for you. That happens sometimes. I guess that not everyone is destined to have a better lens. Maybe, if you are lucky, someone who was willing to expend the effort will buy a couple of extras and will be willing to sell one to you. However, that will probably cost you a bit more. In this world, the "haves" almost always profit from the "have nots."

Peace,

i read entire thread and i keep my opinion: is a lot o jabber there and i don't suggest to anyone to read it at all. Did you heard about "marketing"? What i mean is that NOT WORTH to pay 40$ for an accessory which work with your cheap laser (less then 15$ cost price) to obtain an increase in power with 20-25%!

Different strokes for different folks. You are, of course, welcome to your opinion. However, this is very reasonable to some. Some of us have been known to spend significantly more than this just to see if we could squeeze a few more little mW out of a diode safely.

Gee.... Sorry for all the "jabber"...

This is not a Technical Journal but an Open Laser Forum where all the Members
can express their own personal opinions any time they wish to do so....

No.. I don't know anything about "marketing".... all we know is how to "jabber"..

Perhaps this Forum is not quite up to your needs....  ::)

dear daguin,

on that thread, peoples are just excited and want to buy something without to know the real price. now i am documented and predictions are starting from 30$-40$ and maybe more. i can confirm for you: i will never pay 30-40$ for that. and u will see that not everyone as you suggest, will pay! probably, will be just few hobbyists willing to pay, like in every obscure business. and are more reasons that people wont do it:
- price is out of market (for just 20-25% increase over aixiz doesn't worth to pay double or triple than laser production cost)
- exist better and cheaper solution with the same performance (see meredith which cost "only" 35$) and give the same 20% more power than aixiz
- also exist cheaper solution to increase aixiz power with 10-15% (see virtual village lens, which cost only 1$)

I know that plastic lens if become dirty u can't clean, but how about to trash it? At 1$ each, i can trash monthly minim 2, and in one year, i'll spend only 24$ (half price from Igort custom glass lens). And after 1 year, +20% increase in power will not be a problem... You already guess it... because powerful laser diodes will appear in the large market, at competitive rates. Blu-ray technology will be usual, and more than that, will be replaced soon by HVD (Holographic Versatile Disc). I'm sorry about Igort work... I saw that he spent more then 1000USD... and i think will never get it back (in my opinion, not from sales of his custom-made lens). To have some chances to survive in the market, his lens should be less then 5$.

regards,
Alx
