So i was running my LOC in dorcy Jr today and noticed it was very warm. i put it in the freezer with a cap on for 2 min. it was cool. I didnt think to let it acclimate and turned it on.. INSTANT DEATH . .

sigh .. . . . . .

Moral of the story.. just leave it alone.. dont mess with it

:(

You should have kept it at ambient temperature. Small connections to the laser dye could have broken although it might be the driver...

Truer words were never spoken.

I would have difficulty counting how many lasers I have had to repair simply because the owner wanted to "look at" the inner workings without knowing how to disassemble the laser or what types of precautions must be taken when handling the electronics.

it still lases but at .002 mw

update****

SO this is a Jake21 build.. keep that in mind..

I took it apart to change out the diode and guess what..

THERE IS NO DRIVER!! which is ok because it heatsinked and ive never had a problem with it until now.

i think its actually very interesting because once i put a fresh battery in i metered it with a aixiz glass and it was shooting out 350mw. and 400mw with a 405g-1 lens..

it was pretty warm and thats when i stuck it in the freezer for about 1.5 min. took it out chilly and zap..

oh well lesson learned.

May your laser rest in pieces. Moment of silence now as we pray...

No driver?

Actually I think that it was just a coincidence, the lack of driver might have given a letal spike to the diode.

I've heard that reds tend to be more efficient at lower temperatures. Colder = more efficient = more light = Catastrophic Optical Damage.

I'm totally just guessing this though.
