So I found out, that 445nm ~40W handheld laser is achievable :D
40W+ 445nm laser kit most powerful handheld laser in the world - YouTube

Edit: Of course it isn't single diode, but that makes it even harder? :)

As far I can see this is just a prototype even not finished. To get about 40W out of it he needs at least 14 to 16 diodes, so just the array will become about rifle style. Then there is still the problem with the batteries....

Just there are some differencies compared to your setup. Yours require a driver that outputs 40A whereas he needs about 16 drivers with just 2.3A each. The generated heat is not at a single point but spreaded over these diodes, so also less efford to get the diodes cooled.

Noone said it´s impossible but it´s way easier to build such a modular based setup than what you are asking for. Last but not least his beam profile will be much better than with your diode and it will be VISIBLE.

Portable? Maybe. Handheld? No. He still has many design problems to work on. That's what he expects the final output to be, but many of us have our doubts.

Wow did you see his batteries? :D :D

Knife edging enough diodes can easily get you 40W, or 50, 60, etc etc.

The problem is the portability. I don't see those arms of his working as well as he envisioned. Beam combining is no game, I couldn't even do it with a PBS since my beams weren't exiting parallel.

He could probably make a stable projector out of it, but a portable handheld.. I'm doubtful.

Has nothing to do with batteries. Those are monstrous though!

I have an FAP 12 Watt. Bunch of current!!
It appears to be a bar laser array converged
to a circle using fiber. If poorly focused, you
can see all the dots in the output. I have never
achieved a REAL focused dot but it will burn
stuff at 1 foot. I may try a sphere lens next.

Also, there are small regulators like the PTH08T250
which can efficiently switch higher battery voltage
down with high current. They can be stacked and
measure about 1.5x2" That's portable...
