Here is my freshly built LG-22x LOC running on 440ma. Not sure of the power... And as stated in another thread, the a23 has a run time of about 5mins (if Im lucky...) Im pretty proud considering ten days ago I didn't know that handheld burning lasers existed. The build was only made as a "proof of concept" I wanted to make sure everything worked as it should.

Coming soon, better source of power and the final resting place. (a fun unique host) pics to follow.

I welcome any challengers who think they may have one uglier :na:

Re: Canidate for "uglyest" laser ever?

Later on I will dig out my 30+ year old HeNe from storage and take a picture for you.

She is UGLY.

The glass tube is stuffed into a hunk of PVC drain pipe, that is strapped to a hunk of 2x4 with a couple 1x4 boards, and a very open power supply.

BTW it's ugliest....(spell checkers are free)

OK here it is... I even left the cobwebs and dust on it for ya. As soon as I remember if the damn thing runs on 12 or 24 volts, I'll fire it up and see if it still works.

Notice the use of hot glue and black spray paint.

She was a sweetie back in the 80's.

One time I had a home made "optical board" that was extremely crude, it had a bunch of solenoids with mirrors attached, and the constant clacking noise from the solenoids slamming in and out drove my GF at the time nuts.

I would be playing with this stuff at 2:00 am with the lights off, and there was a half dozen solenoids going clank clank clank no stop until I turned it off.

Back then I custom built everything from the ground up, the pulse generators were 555 timers clocking TTL chips.

Are there any "vintage laser" threads? if not you should start one with that. Would be interesting to see what comes out of the woodwork

I believe at one point someone did start up a similar thread, I don't think it was that long ago, it was very interesting with a few cool finds in there, such as a gun style he-ne lol which was considered a pointer :)

I just found the thread:

have a gander :)

Can't compete with Photonaholic's HeNe, but this is my o-like green module.

1/2 sprinkler tube + sprinkler end cap to hold battery and + spring in place.

Is this a laser from an Egyptian tomb?

You have my vote so far!

BTW yes that is cloth "band aid" medical tape on one end of the ballast resistor.

Seeing lots of rust on the hardware too.
