Broken Red Laser?

Hi, I recently purchased a LZMN - 650nm 200mW Focusable Red Laser Pointer from Lazerer as my first laser. To my disappointment the laser was not able to focus. When I turned the laser on there was no sharp laser beam, but only a large blob of red. I tried turning the focus nob but that did not work either. There seems to be a loose part in the laser. Any help is appreciated.

What 'does not work' when you try focusing the laser? Does the focus ring/head not turn at all, or does it turn but just doesn't focus? If it doesn't turn at all, that's obviously your problem, if it does turn but your laser doesn't focus then that's different but it'd be helpful to know which of those two situations you're dealing with first

The focus ring does work, but the laser doesn't focus at all, it just stays in one big red beam. :(

You may need to take the head apart to see why focusing isn't rotating your focusing lens up & down which would make focusing possible. I'm not 100% clear (ha!) on that but that sounds like your problem

BTW - you're supposed to have one 'big red beam', how or why is this a problem?

I can't seem to be able to open this laser up to reach the focusing lens. It only allows me to open the tail cap for the battery and such. There also seems to be a loose piece in there as I stated before. :undecided:

Can you pls take some detailed pictures & post them? It'd be helpful to see how this can be addressed and approached with some pics

It's not a stupid question, you just dont know how - it's fine.

Upload your pics to any free image website (photobucket, imageshack, ect) After the uploads are done you'll have a pastable URL to share, copy and paste the URL for each image in this manner:

- without the (( and )) and it should work

Holy crap there's a LOT of megapixels, I need to move back across the room to see those!?

With respect, I'm not interested in the unfocused dot - I know what that looks like. Your lasers' bezel should unscrew just above the knurling (the grooves) on the head of the laser. Have you tried taking this part off?

If you are taking it apart, also be VERY VERY careful and certain to put the battery in correctly. I just got a new one from lazerer a couple weeks ago and it only lasted about 5 minutes and died.
I can't say for certain but there is a "strong possibility" I put the battery in wrong when I was messing around with it.
Push the button and instant death.
(I've actually done this a couple of times but now treat every unit like there is no polarity protection)

I would be very surprised if the unit was marketed & sold without RPP but then again, I stumble upon unbelievable surprises everyday

EDIT: just read up on this model from lazerer, it's case positive but they don't mention RPP or not.

The head of the laser does not seem to be able to be unscrewed. I have tried twisting it fairly hard and nothing seems to budge.

It comes off, they dont always make it easy because sometimes they're very tight or glued with a tiny amount of 'temporary adhesive' - but looking at that pictures I'm almost positive it comes off. It could separate below the knurling also, it's hard to tell which of those grooves are 'indented' and 'separate'

I dont want to push you to force it off & possibly damage the unit while trying this, I have no experience with this specific model so I honestly dont know for sure. My next suggestion (I am sorry I cannot be of more help) would be to contact lazerer & tell them about the problem. Chances are you'll be walked through how to fix this, either via chat or email I don't know - but likely one of the two
