After using my Laserbee and found out the 635nm laser was only doing 200mw I decided to investigate. The current was 850mA and after contacting the manufacturer I was informed the current should be at a max of 1200mA.
I set it to 1100mA to be "SAFE" It produced 490mW. My happiness only lasted 10 minutes. The laser went COD :( No warrenty claims :(

My feeling was that the 500mw 635 I bought only had a 200-300mw laser diode. Explains the current it was set to and the output.

Anyways

Now I was short of a red laser in my RGB system....so I *cough* bought a 1 Watt 650nm...should give a nice white colour balance. Gets here next week..

Sorry to burst your bubble, but you won't notice much difference if at all.

If your old red was running at approximately 200mW (give or take a few mW), then it'll only be equal to 800mW or so of 650nm.

It won't be anywhere near 500mW of 635nm.

Yes, I knew that when I purchased the 650. But I wanted a deeper red. 635 is the brightess red around..personal choice.

Laser is at customs and will arrive tomorrow. Gee only took two days to get here.

FYI, as per

Beam: (635nm 500mw) vs. (650nm 1115.36mw)

500mw 635 Red = 1115mw 650 Red

I don't think the eye can distinguish 115mw..so I believe they should look equal brighteness.

I'll take some pics and do a review soon.

Hello, I am very interested in the 1 Watt red laser you purchased. How much did you pay for it? Please provide a link, many thanks!

Thanks for sending, I came across that exact laser within the past week. It is actually 4 x 250mW laser diodes in one unit which will not work with my RGB laser projector. It has too wide of a beam, most of it would get lost on the galvos. I need a nice tight beam so I went with another 250mW along with a PBS cube for a total of 1/2 watt.

Check out the photos I just uploaded here: http://laserpointerforums.com/f44/finished-my-rrgb-laser-projector-photos-63493.html

Really, screw that. My bad, I didn't know. Guess I won't be buying it after all.
