G'day,

Got this host from Cajulasers.com here: Powerlight B50 host & heat sink [PWRB50] - $29.99 : Cajunlasers Store

Decided to make mini red as i don't have one!

The Build

I planned on running a LPC-826 diode off a single 16340 cell, so i opted for a Flexdrive on this one.

The heatsink for these is the pill as well so i decided to mount one of those copper driver heatsinks inside so i filled the base of it so it was semi round to fit inside.

Then you get something like this:
b504.jpg

So you can sit the flexdrive on-top of the copper heatsink like so:
b503.jpg

Next i set the flexdrive jumpers, set the current & thermally glued it onto the copper driver heatsink:
b502.jpg

Then I drilled a hole through the battery positive PCB to attach the spring to the Positive in to the driver:
b508.jpg

Pressed the diode into a copper module, soldered the connections while in a mini heatsink and prepped for heat-shrinking.
At this point you can fire up the diode to see if she runs or not by attaching a singe cell lithium to the battery contact PCB and the temporary heatsink (make sure you remove some of the anodizing cause its an electrical insulator.)
b509.jpg

Heat-shrink the diode connections:
b5010.jpg

All set to thermally glue the driver heatsink into the Aluminum heatsink, screw the module set screw in, added a 16340 battery, AR Coated Acrylic Lens & one of Moh's infamous 3/4" Focus adapters :p

Haven't LPM'd this one yet cause my LPM is out of action atm, will get some beam shots tonight tho!

Thanks for looking!

Fiddy.

Very nice build, indeed. I'm loving the dot-shot photo, all in red with green accents on the laser... damn! Futuristic feeling is here, alright.

Now, since I'm the one who makes heatsinks for these, I'd appreciate any and all criticism you might have about the heatsinks. What would you change, remove, add?

Hehe thanks :)

Theres a few things i noticed:

The ID of the hole where the aixiz module is a tad to big, im not sure what tolerances you are using but it was a bit big.

When i tightened the set screw down, the module moved from being parrallel with the host to being off on an angle, not sure if it was cause my module wouldn't sit back far enough or not.

The overall heatsink fit in the heatsink is very nice & the face of it polished up really well :)

I use 12mm drill bit, resulting in the 12.1 or so mm, and yeah since Aixiz iz actually 11.85 mm it can get a bit too big. I'll see into getting a new bit, would be about time.

I have not yet experienced the offsetting of axiz when tightening the set screw... Try to just unscrew it a bit and screw it again.

Thanks for the feedback!

oh ok, would probably be a good idea.

yeah, i think it was just the way i have it sitting, cause ive got that driver heatsink in there i cant push it in too far.

No worries :)

Mitch, I'm going to put this thread in the product sales page, very nice job you did here :gj:. I'm sure glad I bought a few packs of those o-rings, that's two hosts so far I've seen you change out to those where they look MUCH better than the original black o- rings! Eud does fantastic work - and in a very quick turn around time too. I highly recommend him to anyone in need of a custom heat sink, his prices are very good as well, but more importantly, a very friendly guy to work with. Lots of people here cut heat sinks and do other custom work, some do very top notch work, but their egos and attitudes will keep my money going elsewhere :p

Very sweet build! I've been thinking of building one of these. The host looks quite a bit like a Sipik flashlight. Which is awesome. Good job on it!

You sir, are completely right. They are very similar, yet different.

Heres a photo of my Sipik flashlight from my Flashlight Collection

Comparison.

hey, i was wondering wether you could tell me what type of resistor i would need for an option-x GhostDrive. Got a 300mw diode and hoping to obtan a 1000mw one. Please supply images.

you are in the wrong thread, Why did you post here?:thinking::thinking::thinking:

Also, the resistor in question changes the current of the driver.
What type of diode you using? what wavelength? what current do you wanna set it at?
