I was wondering what is the average life of a gb red connected to daedels circuit with a cap,  Maybe somone who has 4.4 ohm resistance in the circuit and the pot at min resistance(its letting all the current through, its like not even having a pot at all in it) could tell me how long it might last?  I do have a 7.2v battery connected to it so i dont know if that changes anything?

it does change things, it means you SHOULD DEFINITELY NOT RUN IT THAT LOW RESISTANCE lol

under those circumstances, maybe until you put the next fresh battery in and get a current spike...

To bad my pot is like 1k lol its like either on or off with it :(, I might change the 4.4 resistor to somethin more maybe like a 5ohm would it still burn good with that? I cant think of anyway to get a resistor between 4.4 and 5

Is there a way to get one between 4.4-5 with these
1ohm
10ohm
2.2ohm
15ohm

well two 10 ohm resistors in parallel will create 5 ohms and will allow at max about 250 ma throught to the diode. this is how i am running my diode and it burns great and has lasted about a month so far just heatsinked to the aluminum case. that is what i recomend

hopefully it will still burn fireworks from a pretty good distance, Ill guess ill use 5ohms then so it can stay on for longer and i dont break $20dollors :'( again lol...

With all the variability in these components, it all boils down to actual LD current. LD life is also related to current and how long you run it at that current and heatsinking / cooling.

I'd stick with the 5 ohms, 250 mA solution really. Powering it to 300 mA or so will not result in -that- much extra output power, while this is a point where you start killing these diodes.

Even at 250 mA life will probably not be that great, but at least dozens of hours, perhaps more.

Well Maybe thats why my other one died, it did last like a week and a half for a bout 2 hours each day with 4.4 resistance, so i guess 5ohm would work good because i do have a fan on it cooling it down but i cant seem to find a heatsink or anything to make it better. I only ran it at like 1 min at a time to.
