Well, just as I had everything ready to go, driver adjusted to what I thought was proper, host all done, etc....

The positive leg snaps flush off the diode. Anyway to attempt to repair this?

And if not, is it worth it for me to get another LD of the same type, or is there a new "hot item" out now?

If the "Not used" pin is connected to the case, you could put a small blob of solder over the broken pin and use it as case positive. If the case turns out to be negative, you're screwed...

Well....It almost screwed. Leave the diode be for a while until you have the tools to repair it.
I think theres some sort of glue that will work.

[quote author=styropyro link=1228622341/0#2 date=1228693980]If it was the positive pin it is going to be hard to make it usable again. You could try to solder on a new pin.

If you want a new diode you can get a more powerful open can laser diode for $11 in the group buy section.

Any info available any where on that $11 LD? I searched both the forums and google'd it, but cant seem to find a datasheet for it....

Re: ARF:  Missing leg on Senkat LD

This is the Long open-can red that right now is the best red diode we can easily get. If you drive it at ~420ma, you will get 250-300mW of power depending on optics.. I actually am driving mine @480mA with good heatsinking and it has lasted for months:). Too bad I have no LPM to see what power I am getting thru the Aixiz glass lens...

There are many sources for this diode here on the site, along with just buying an 18-22x DVD burner(of course one that actually has the LOC LD in it) and extracting the diode. It all depends on how much you want to spend, how long you want to wait, and how much work you are willing to do to get it:).

Try brushing flux on it and carefully solder to it. Gluing it will be very hard to do.
