Does anyone have any information on the long closed can (LCC) red found in the 6x sleds? Power vs. current graph hopefully. How do they compare to the LCC from the 4x sled?

i think most LCC diodes are close to the same. you should be able to use drlavas graph for them.

I graphed the long canned red diode from my first 6X drive (GGW-H20L)

Long (canned) Red - GGW-H20L.jpg

I found that 395mA's will give you over 225mW's with an AixiZ acrylic lens.

I found that the long canned red diodes from a couple of 4X drives were the same power. (GBW-H10N)

I have found that those diodes give better power at lower current. I made two identical lasers, one with the closed can from a 4x sled and another with the long open can from an LG 22x. I found that using a 7135 driver at 3.6v in. the 4x CC red gave 230mW with an axiz glass, and the 22x just over 200mW same lens. I remove the can from the 4x sled diodes now as well, but havent tested the difference.

I have one diode from a 4x sled at 420mA and it's giving me 249mW after Aixiz glass.
If at 395mA you get over 225mW after AixiZ acrylic. The glass lens gives ~10% increase IIRC which is 247.5mW.
That's 20mA lower for the same power. Is this just normal variations between diodes or because they are infact different?

Well, I''ve built a lot of long open can diodes, and found that diodes will vary in power a little. Usually not more than about 10mW's. But once in a while, I get a 'HOT' one that is not the norm...

I have only tested 3 or 4 of the long canned reds. All of mine are about the same as that graph. (with-in 5mW's or so)

I have also found that the AixiZ glass lens (AR coated) will give you about 8 or 10mW's more power at that current when compared with the AixiZ acrylic. (for red builds, not blu-ray)

Igor put me on to some even better acrylic lenses that have a really nice AR coating for reds! I have swapped out all of my AixiZ red builds to use these new lenses, because they focus the exact same as the AixiZ acrylic, but give up to 20mW's more power! :D (depending on the current driven)

They came in a plastic nut, that threads right into the AixiZ module. The AixiZ focus ring fits right on there too! The back is already open...

Not sure if he has more, but here's the e-bay seller... I messaged him, and he got me the lenses:

P.S. My graph was made with an AixiZ acrylic. Look at the power at 420mA's, then add 10 or 12mW's for the difference in the lens you have. (AixiZ glass) Looks like your diode is the same power as my graph! ;)

I have found the same thing... The difference is, the long open cans can be pushed to a higher current. Thus giving more power.

The best power for reds, compared to current driven, are the Sony/Senkat 123JL-54. (but only good for about 200mW's) Notice how they compare with the long open cans in Lava's comparison graph...

Red Diode Graph - All.jpg

That's why I chose the 123JL-54 diode for my red 'Key Chain' build! Most power for a lower current! I wanted to keep the current fairly low for the tiny key chain build because of the relatively small battery:

so what is a good current for these lcc diodes that will let them have a long life? how much lower than a lpc815 (mines at 400ish ma)?
thanks

I have dozens of modules out there, with the LCC from the 6X sled, running at 420mA. The LCC from the 6X sled puts out ~245mW with the stock aiXix at that current. Some of these are in "scanner" set-ups so will burn a long time.

I run my personal hand-held with one of these LCC's set at 500mA. I get 350mW with Jayrob's Merideth for aiXix mod lens from my hand-held.

Peace,
dave

... Does the LCC have a, 'controlled', atmosphere inside the can? I read a post a while back saying that BRs had this?

Maybe PBD or one of the other "scientists" will chime in more specifically, but I believe that all closed can diodes have a "controlled" atmosphere.

Peace,
dave
