For the input voltage ..... remember that these are step-down linear regulators, so the input voltage must be higher than the LD voltage ..... anyway, those drivers have usually less than 1V of dropout ..... about the maximum input voltage, i'm not sure, anyway you can see that they have no tantalium capacitors on the input, so the only limit is given from the IC maximum power supply, and from the 10uF 6.3V tantalium capacitor at the output (LD side, marked J106) ..... as far as the output is not higher than 6V (no LDs with over 6V of FV), and the input remain under 12 / 13V, no problem for the voltage.

Only remember that a linear driver need to dissipate ALL the extra power in heat, so more the input voltage is near the FV of your LD, better it is ..... can say, if your LD have a FV of 2.8V or similar (red diodes, usually), a 3.7V Li-Ion cell will be enough.

Hmm. Stupid question time. What are these diodes rated at? I'm going to order a set either this pay day or the next and can't find a datasheet that I don't have to register/pay for to get.

Ill be using the following host with a single 10440 cell and my LM1117 driver:

$3.60 - MXDL XT-7119 3W 50-Lumen LED Flashlight with Clip (Color Assorted/1*AAA) - Other LED Lights

I like the looks of those hosts. Any idea if the reflector can be reversed and drilled out like some of the cree hosts can? With a low powered build it really shouldn't need much in the way of a heatsink. I suppose I could get someone to make a couple heatsinks too if needed. I may order another of those cree hosts Lazeerer used in his one build and hope they're the old style reflectors and not the newer style. Guess I can always use one more flashlight if it's the newer style.

Well mine came today or at least it would have but my postal carrier was too lazy to walk up to the house and get a sig so I got a card in my mail box.

Will the colour really look *any* different than a LOC diode run at low current? IE - could you tell them apart?

midias: Your signature is out of order ;)

...yes, I'm a little OCD

It should be noticeably dimmer and a more deeper red vs 660nm. I can't say for sure since I never seen it.

OFFS! How did I miss that?! Maybe I took an inadvertent reflection from my 445 and that's why. Yeah that's it*. Thanks. :p

*Actually I'm just an idiot and missed the link. I never use my 445 in situations with I can potentially take a reflection without using my glasses.

Mine arrived, but unfortunately they had been stepped on, the leads completely crushed and one window cracked... Disappointed in that, looks like the thin envelope they were in had been stomped on or driven over.

To those who have gotten these working - is it definitely deeper red, to you, than 650?
