What can you do with a broken switch and laser diode? Of course, the laser!

Parts:

Diode: DVD burner
Host: at-fs705le switch
Driver: LM317
Power supply: 6-12V(Max)
Lens: Aixiz standard lens
Output: ~200mW

Good!

What driver do you used? I think with a DVD burner LD you can get 250mW setting the current to 400mA. I run all my red lasers at this current and nothing bad happened.

Well... a 200mW laser without any heatsink?! The duty cicle must be very short...
@alessnilsen: He said that he used a LM317.

Good, I agree with you, my laser runs at 250 mW and generates a lot of heat. You must run it with a duty cycle.

Sorry, I don't seen the driver in the assembly.

Technically IMHO what you have built is NOT a lab laser- no fan- no HS- and either short duty cycle or soon a dead diode-- many heat sinks can be had cheap from Ebay-- enlarge the opening and rebuild with a bigger HS--adding a small fans may also be a good idea--+5 for re-using parts my first battery handhelds looks a lot like this-- BUT all have the AixiZ module in a heat sink--
