Looking for an affordable red diode- need round small spot and no less than 300mW per diode-

here is one thats cheap but useless to me (15mW)

640nm Red Laser Diode 15mW | eBay

.5W at 1500$ but shipped free!!

300mW at $800

ttl or analogue same price same seller
Beam divergence, full angle (mrad) <1.0
Dimensions of beam at the aperture (mm) ~3. 0

wonder where Meirlight gets the HP red diodes??
gotta luv that divergence..

these Greedbay listings DO have 'make offer' so ..

I'd recommend trying Laserwave and Kvant. I know the former has a 1W 642nm system, and I'm sure both have anamorphic prism corrected 638's. Though I don't know how perfect you need these.

What on earth do you need it for? I'm curious.

640/642 is an alternate to the multimode 638's, or less visible 660's in projectors to get the red leg of the system.

Yea 200mW is about the best I have seen currently with single mode diodes and that is running the 120mW Opnext @ 300mA to get 200mW which is pretty easy to do. There is a 170mW Opnext but they are about 3-4X the price and it may get closer to a reliable 300mW.

If you wait there is a multimode 700mW Opnext that will be here in a month or two that may have a better beam profile than the Mitsu ones but that still will probably not be anywhere near a perfect dot.

I've heard not so good things about the 640nm laser wave modules, mainly to do with alignment shifting over time.

Kvant is the way to go. Better get out the rack though, it's going to make your wallet scream :p

TY Alex- Wondering how well the Mierlight 640 labs work and last.
They are not cheap either...

these were posted by the guy who owns the two identical ('cept for the diodes)projectors- a well-respected show forum VET member with NO personal agenda .--

^^^^ THIS is why I want 640 dual red for my DIY PJ.

May just be one of those cases where it will be a long time before these 640 HP diodes become affordable.

Might be cheaper to attempt to better 'tame' the beam from the 635nm- 500mW Mitsubs.

yeah PJ are a big money pit

I need a good bright red with small beam to go into my DIY PJ-

and 640 is the one- i have a 1300mW 650 from Spacelas BUT it is NOT bright enough nor thin enough nor the best spot shape to go into my PJ- my 532 for this PJ is 'only' ~ 400 mW BUT that is SO bright that one needs a LOT of R and B to hope for a good balance- 50mW of 532 is equal in 'brightness' as 1W of 445 blue -- as these are all analog I still can get a great white by dialing back the powers to match ( but losing mW combined)
