Hi Paul,
Well i built quite a few 500's but i really like the 700 better for the reason it's more forgiving to me than the 500 . Hey don't get me wrong pal i haven't met a diode i didn't like it's that some aren't willing to give you what you want out of them. Hey if it was a perfect world all diodes for sale would be binned LOL...
I've had better luck with the Mits too. Worst for me is the bdr-209 16× blu (as life already knows). I can't get one past 1W without it blowing in a host. I need life to tell me the exact driver he is using as he has done it Need a soft/delayed/ramp start but I am not interested in guessing which one. Have some over 800mW but I want that illusive Watt too.
Hi chick,
Well I do that with most of my builds. Numbers shouldn't lie. It is what is is. As we all know it's a gamble sometimes lol... Thank you for the compliments much appreciated ..
Rich
@P Man,
Yes the BDR 209 is tough to get to 1W safely and to keep it going is a whole other story.
I to lost a few trying for the 1W goal but now I'm satisfied with 900+ W,s . But one day I'll be victorious. I still have a sled to tear down for a copper pen build say a prayer to the diode gods.
We need to grow up and get over those stupid whole number goals like 1W, 2W etc. That being said, I still want a 1W 405nm lol. Should just forget about it though. I just don't see a new higher output diode being released.
Hi P,
Yes indeed 1W in 405nm is satisfying , No, me either on the new diode the 405nm it's tops at the moment. Hey you never know maybe some day think positive.
Oh, i really don't want to grow up and reach higher Wattage 7+ and going.
guys you can reach 1W+ safely with BDR 16x diode if the driver is 650-700ma... But the driver must have a ramp up/soft start over 3 seconds. i tested on 3 diodes... if you want to know more pm me.
I lost my oclaro few weeks ago changing host and driver it was just under 1w at 950ma I put it in a hugsby mini and then used a 4.2v battery instead of the 1.5v with the original Hugsby driver, silly mistake. I love reds too I have 2 mitts both over 1w at 1.4a one with a AMC driver the other with a Flexdrive I have custom built them both in vapes no 510 adapter pressed heatsinks inside the vapes I will get around to posting threads on them.
Hi BBB,
Like the 638's my self there's not to manny posts on them lately they deserves more attention i think. Wow you had that build for a while and you lost due to an oops, well thats the pits i say brother.Nice over 1W at 1.4A's i'll have to try that with the Mtsu500's next time. I'll try that with a SXD set to 1.4A , the 510adapters are cool build many of them my first was a 405nm single mode at around 800+W's loved it still have it but i built a full brass pen with the Diode and driver got bored one day and shaped it out.Well thank the lord some one else besides me still has a hankering for the Reds.
Hi BBB,
That's some nice builds wow awesome like the hosts you chose for the 638nm's. And thank you for the pics they came out great. As for the driver i just may give it a shot with one the next time i build a 638 laser. Thank you for the tip always welcome Buddy..
I built a mits 500 in a laser 66 pen at 1.1W last week and have an Oclaro 700 coming today. Haven't decided yet whether it's going in another laser66 pen or not yet. Also ordered a bunch of single modes yesterday and one is the Mits 180 red. Thinking I may put the single mode in a laser66 rather than the 700 since I already have the 1.1W mits in one.
On a side note I have one Mits 500 putting out just over 1.3W in a large host but that was a freak diode and I won't necessarily be surprised if it doesn't last.
Will say that even with a 3 element lens the multimode class 4 reds don't have the most attractive dot. It's why I use mostly 3 element lenses in my builds after measuring their outputs with a G.
I still want to know whatever happened to the high output 650nm diodes. I have some class 4 650nm including over 1W from 2-3 years ago.
