Hey all, I'm going to make this short and sweet. I have a 1200mw 638nm (1.5a x-drive + 500mw Mitsubishi diode + G lense) it was built by one of the best builders IMHO here at lpf. It runs off 2 x aw imr 14500's and after some time consuming testing I've found that my laser will not work with freshly charged batteries... only after I've partially drained The batteries will it work. Ive come to this conclusion after realizing that the batteries were the only variable. I bypassed the tail switch with fresh batteries and the only result was heat around The head of the laser. I later tried with used batteries and it worked. Did this many times. Any ideas?
Thanks gentlemen.

Are you positive it is not just one of those batteries malfunctioning, I had a battery where the protection circuit wasn't seated on top quite right so it didn't make connection with the batteries terminal, a light tap on a table leg knocked it in place though.

It definitely has to be a battery, the xdrive can take up to 16v iirc.

Actually nevermind on all this, your using AW IMRS, no protection circuit. HMMMMMMM

^^^^ the batteries work fine, I'm thinking there is a fault in the driver circuitry. AFAIK there is little possibility of the driver shorting out on the case... also it makes a hissing noise when turned on (but no lasing).

Definitely sounds like a driver issue. Have you contacted Lazeerer, he might have some insights since he designed the driver.

Good luck, I hope you get it solved, that's one hell of a laser. Ive got a polished 445 mini-sabre on the way now! They just look too damn good to resist!

I'm just going to have the driver replaced. And yes the polished minisabre looks damn good, especially with the focus adapter :D
