Which 635nm pointer to get, Z-Bolt or Atlasnova?

I don't really care about looks or whether it can be focused, I want a stable, 5mw 635nm pointer.

Thanks.

Edit:

Got the Z-Bolt one, along with a normal 645nm pointer.

Go with z-bolt. My 635nm pointer from z-bolt puts out 4.3-4.5mw average. I also hear good things about atlasnova so I suppose you can't go wrong with either of them.

Ok, I'll wait for a few more responses and I'll probably order tomorrow.

what's with all the 635nm hype?

is it "redder"?

IMO if i could have a non-dpss green or blue i'd go for it

They are a novelty like HeNe lasers. Basically they are another cool laser to have in your collection. Also 635nm pointers are great for presentations and playing with pets because they are 2-3X brighter than a standard red pointer while still being eye safe.

Its actually noticeably "oranger", therefore more brilliantly visible (to the human eye since it is closer to our peak sensativity) then the 650nm.

Wouldn't we all. :p

I personally like the Atlasnova site better. Haven't yet done business with either one. ~$6 more for on/off switch, I think it's worth it. What about high powered 635nm modules? Check out Photonic Products web site. 24mW seems to be the highest they offer, however I HATE it when they don't list prices. I'll keep searching.

Thanks for the responses guys.
It looks like it's neck to neck here, with Atlasnova and Z-Bolt.
IMO, the Atlasnova one looks better, but that doesn't really matter.

Thanks for the link Ace82, I would look into building my own, but I'm just not up for it now. ;)

Oh and I'm not getting either anytime soon...
My parents strongly dislike lasers and are doing anything to take them away from me (Even though they let me buy them and are under 5mW). They are even putting price limits on the amount of money I can spend on lasers.
They think I'm "not ready yet" for a laser, and took away all of my lasers (Including a few cheap red ones)
And just so you know, I'm not mischievous. :p

My parents hated mine too when I lived at home (1995) and I only got in trouble when I let a friend "see" one of my lasers and started pointing it in the window of my neighbor where dwelled 2 cops! (husband & wife). I think its wise to begin young (when maturity begins) where the knowledge and wisdom can be acquired quicker given more time and energy toward learning. When you get older, it becomes a battle to survive, and an even bigger battle for trying to keep an expensive hobby!

Lol...

It just shows the line of maturity.
I tell my parents that I hold all responsibility for my lasers, and they're still like "You can have them back on your birthday."
Birthday!? I want them now!

Send them information on the laser classifications to calm them down ;D
I tried explaining to my parents how any laser less than 5mW is near harmless unless you stare into it.. And then they still say that "They can blind someone!"

Go with Atlasnova. Their service cannot be beat.

Check out this one from aixisz: http://cgi.ebay.com/635nm-10mW-lase...6579809QQihZ002QQcategoryZ53141QQcmdZViewItem

It's a 10 mW 635 module for $15, but with line generating optics. I just ordered one, at this price it seems very nice. The grating that creates the line can often be removed easily or just swapped out for the normal lens from another module.

I never found 635 to be orange, but it surely is per-mW brighter than 650/660.
