Hi everyone.

Here's my 10mw 635nm build made from a red <1mw DX 650 keychain.

LD is a 10mw 635 from Rothiner Laser along with a 4.5-6v red laser driver.

Original diode was a flat chip. A 5.6 groove had to be drilled out for the new LD.

Power source - was modified to take either 2x lithium 1/3N cells or 4x LR44 button cells for a total of 6v.

Wow, nice job, now you have a pointer superior to any other keychain you might come across in your neighbourhood.
"How the hell is your laser so powerful?!"

Now for some maybe 405nm violets with tiny boost drives, hmm ?

Excellent work! You're using a diode of known pedigree and a real power supply. Looks good.

I did a similar mod a couple years ago. I modified a < $5.00 keychain pointer. I replaced the diode with a 15mW 635nm (sdl-7502) and the resistor (power supply) with an ns-102 (apc) supply.

Some pics:

Top assembly is the original resistor + diode, bottom is what I replaced it with.

In action.

Only problem with my mod is the diode consumes 75-100 mA, and the 357 batteries quickly tire when in use. OK for a pointer. I think you did a better job.

635nm is probably my favorite laser color of the few currently available.

Thanks. Not a bad build yourself. But your right about the batteries. The typical cheap button cells dont last long.
Also im not sure but I think the 357 cells are different from regular LR44's in chemistry. I think there for long life or something, not current output but dont quote me on that.

However there are SR44 cells which are stronger versions of the LR44. Cost a lot more too. :(
The 1/3N is also pricey.
