Hello everyone, I was interesed in this diode for it's high visibility of 637-640nm typ. in a 5.6 mm package and is rated at 250mw CW at 360ma currrent at 2.3 volts, the emitter is 0.64um also. I think this laser could be driver more in current what do you think, maybe reaching an optical output of 350mw? Also compared with a 20x LOC 650nm 300mw red which will be brighter? Can this laser diode be capable of "burning" as well as just be very bright?! IF you can help me out please respond to this thread. The site you can view the diode is Opnext Products the part # is HL6388MG

I'm not 100% sure that you can run that straight off a DDL driver (correct me if I'm wrong).

High frequency performance over a wide temperature range (>20GHz relaxation oscillation frequency)

This makes me think it might need a TTL driver or simular!

If its avalible in 5.9mm o-like has a host/module for the diode!

Link 5.6mm diode housing with glass lens...

I'm not sure about the brightness comparison but some one will give their opinion on that!

hope that helped -Adrian

Should be fine to run it off of an LM317 driver.

If you're going to get this LD, I suggest that you get Lens 27 from a company called roithner, it will give you a nice thin beam.

640 is about twice as bright as your typical DVD diode ( 658nm +/- 5nm )

I really don't see why you would want to buy such an expensive diode though, then overdrive it, just for the sake of burning something ? if you want something bright just get some high powered green. 200mW from this diode will be as bright as a 400mW LOC. But as I said, why get a 250mW diode brand new for a fairly high price and then overdrive it a lot just to burn something ?

Well, if you wanted something RED and bright, a lower wavelength like these makes sense. I'm not sure what the price for this diode is, so can't say if it would be cheaper to get 2 LOCs and a PBS cube to combine their power to get very similar brightness.

If your goal is only to burn things, getting a LOC makes no sense either - you'd be better of with the 808 pump from any green laser pointer.

You seem to be under the illusion that the diode in question will cost a similar amount to a LOC diode.

My guess is that the diode you linked would cost more than 500$ if you can even buy one.

As far as I'm aware it is less than $500, but only in bulk quantity.

They are a bit more expensive, yes, but I think DrLava can get the 150mW version of that diode fairly cheap, maybe $100-125 but don't quote me on that..

wow! are we talking about a 5.6mm 635-640nm singlemode 150mw diode? never saw higher output than 20 to 40mw for singlemode!

The 250 is multiple, but you are right that the 150 is single mode. Typical wavelength is given as 642 rather than 635, but it is still going to be significantly brighter than the usual 658s. Wonder what they are quoting for it!

The 150mWs are single mode at 642nm. As mentioned there are 250mW version available that are multimode.

even at 642nm and 150mw rated (we know what to do with official ratings, right?) it should be awesome bright! if this ever turns into a gb...?

has anyone tried putting one of those 5.6mm complete green modules in an aixiz? I saw them in one of the google ads links from this site, and this thread reminded me...

will

wait, a complete green module in a 5.6mm can? i doubt we will see that.. but then i was already surprised when i saw a 5.6mm can with integrated driver ;-)
have a link?
