I would be happy to test one on my LPM to push it if someone gave me one. I can tell you mine does look more orange than my LOC and my 16x DVD. I am running at 109ma and I am getting about 46mw I do not plan on turning it up any more. It doe not get hot at all. As for changing color as long as you keep it cool it should not change much. I really like this diode I wish I had more.

Just got a message from Dan who was selling those 40mw Sanyo 635nm LDs on EBay.
He's just just sourced another x5 which are now available to anyone who wants them ;)

Yeah, the other one is heading my way....3 left.

Not gonna lie I did consider the dick move of buying all of them and reselling for a considerable mark up. Now I just need to work up the stones to push one of these to the limit. Remember they are case LD+. I have a working LM337 driver pen but I kinda wanna see what they can do.

I'm going to "out" myself, I got the first one. Thanks for the tip, netwave!
These are veritable hotcakes.

I don't even know yet, I'm gonna start with the 20mW diode first.
I think I'm not gonna push it much though, with the preciousness of the diode
and the shift in wavelength when overdriven and whatnot.....

60ma is the threshold and 100ma is the normal so stay around 100 and you should be good. I think I built for 110 and got 106 and put about 46-49mw out.

I suggest that we alter our "normal" attitude towards diodes with this one

With the wavelength going higher with both current AND heat, this is not a diode that you want to "push."

Remember, the beauty of this diode is that it is 638nm

It is true, that we often push diodes to twice their rated output.

However, what good would that do you if you push this one up to 650nm? Suddenly you have yourself an 80mW 650nm red pointer :na:

Peace,
dave
