I will say the spectrum difference is very noticeable at 40mW. It looks like a HeNe.

but this is rated at 40mW so 200mW is 400% overdriven

could be possible....but not likely

Oh, I wasn't talking about the 40mW one, I was talking about the 150mW ones they have a GB for at photonlexicon.com

I got into lasers because of the light, not the burning. If I wanted to burn things, I would use something more effective, such as thermite or napalm.

Can someone point me to the link for the GB? I couldnt find it.

I'd be interested too... Maybe. Pricy but, well, I've had 3 successful builds, I don't know if i'd trust myself on a $150 diode yet....

Did anyone ever push one of these diodes and see what it could do? Pics?

Mine is running at 110ma for few weeks now and the brightness is comparable with a LCC red at 255mA. I just have one 635nm diode and I don't wanna lose it :D

If they ever come back for a good price on ebay I am getting a couple and I am going to push one to its limits.

Unfortunately, after speaking to the seller (twice) and some research around, I don't think they ever will.

Which is why I'm really upset I didn't buy more; and why I still wake up in cold sweats over the fact that I did indeed LED one.... (My first LEDed diode in a build, but man, why couldn't it have been like a 660nm...)

These are no longer made by Sanyo, and the remaining stocks that exist, distributors want stupid amounts for them. Their original purpose was for DVD-R for Authoring drives (Different than the DVD-R we know of now, which is 'For General', which uses a 650nm laser.)

It's possible that we may be able to harvest Pioneer DVR-S201s, but those are still costly.

That is really too bad I guess I should have bought more than 1 but I am glad I did at least get one 635nm 46mw laser pen made.

I was just thinking the other day I should have bought 20 and made some functioning units for the members here.

Is there a way to predict the maximum current on these diodes without damaging ? Maybe if the mA/mW curve start to slow down ? But I don't have a lpm.

Mine is running at 107mA now and still going strong without ill effects.

Blord; I'm not sure about that, but, the only thing I wonder is the wisdom of pushing them... for a few reasons.

1) These suddenly seem stupidly rare. I say this because I LEDed one and I'm still upset about it :) but blowing one of these out, at this point, even with the low initial cost, may 'hurt more' in the rarity department than blowing a 405-12x.

2) They seem to not become 635s anymore as you push them... I fully believe they can probably output 40-60mW, but probably at 645 or even 650nm. At 107mA, does it LOOK more "orange" than, say, your 660nm NewWish?

Also, IF ANYONE HAS ANY OF THESE THAT THEY BOUGHT AND WANT TO SELL, PLEASE CONTACT ME ASAP! :) I blew one up, and really want to make good on that....
