:yabbem: I'd like to get more too. I got 2 when they were available, - one is now running successfully at 45mW, but the other one went LED right on startup. damn-de-damn-damn.

This thing is DEFINITELY closer "orange-red" to my HeNe's than the Dilda is though. By far.

Honestly the 40mW 635 is just as 'visually bright' as my 175mW LOC 660. and much more towards orange.

UPDATE: Apparently, according to the seller, they have all been sold, and there will be no more. Also, Sanyo has discontinued them.

Damn. Well, for about $100 more you can have 150mW 638nm over at PL.

I'll do it shortly Midias, after I get through some holiday stuff.

I used Jayrob's 18650 kit, which is a 'Cree/Aurora' host (similar to Yobresal's 445's) -Press fit heatsink, has a Flexdrive v5 in it, set to 100mA - and it's doing 40mW output spot on.

No, single mode, 5.6mm. Seriously, they are great diodes, I wonder why they're not more common.

I'm guessing because people are 'bored of red' and 150mW won't "burn stuff"; I don't include myself in that category, and, may really look into it.

I would guess they cost a lot to make vs others

Sure, but that shouldn't stop people. I mean, members here paid $200 for an 8x bluray diode just half a year ago, and while this diode may not burn as good, it's much, much brighter.. About as bright as 400mW 660nm, and that's if you drive it at rated power. It can probably easily do 200mw++, which would be extremely bright.

200mW?! i think that might be a bit of a stretch but man would it ever be bright at that power! Too bad there arnt more of these diodes around to play with.

Im sticking to 40mW since that will create the most spectrum difference from my 660nm

Remember, the LOC diode is rated at 150mW, but we usually drive them at around 250mW. I think think there is a single diode that we don't overdrive by around ~25% at least.

but this is rated at 40mW so 200mW is 400% overdriven

could be possible....but not likely
