Interesting theory...do you have a picture of the hardware working, or just an artist concept. I would like to see this design in a working prototype.

I don't think you can run the diodes in parallel unless you put in balancing resistors or one diode will hog all the current. As for electrical isolation, use the insulator methods in mounting TO3 or TO-220 transistors.

Why does your son want what we consider an advanced laser source. What has he built to date to demonstrate responsibility with laser light? Are you aware, having only one post, of the potential danger of this experimentation in the hands of the unenlightened??

thank for your quick reply. He has not had a laser before, i got one when the science department got new equipment. it is a heene laser, it has a tag it that says it is a danger to the eyes so we will be careful. I want him to learn new things, and get off the grand theft auto...he seems interested so i will help him. If this experiment is too advanced for him (he is 12) then can you suggest another experiment to try? thank you for quickly replying to me, i dont know how all this group works.

Thank you for being observant for quality items, this project you might want to work up to. It is kind of difficult and sort of expensive. I give you a +1! for looking at it!

There are many different experiments that your son could try.. Seeing as how he is 12, I'd recommend something fairly low-powered (5-20mW) for safety's sake. You can browse thought the links in this thread: http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1218324818
