I think ima buy this laser, but I want to know if it will be able to point around in the sky and point to the stars and stuff, and will it have a really good bright beam also? And would it be worth the extra like 8 bucks for the waterproof version? Also, could somebody link me to a good pair of glasses that protect against red lasers but arent too expensive? Thanks peoplez.

If you plan to do star (or sky) pointing you need 532nm Green
You will not be able to see a 650nm Red's beam unless its real dark or on a foggy night.
20mW of 532nm is as bright (to the human eye) as 200mW of 650nm

I just received my 200mw red (new style) from O-like today. The beam is visible with subdued room lighting and is clearly visible pointing up into the night sky. Although I agree with Greenmechanic that you should get a green laser if you want a sky pointer.

The beam is visible, but NOTHING compared to a grennie with equal output...

Yup nothing like a green laser. The red beam is visibile as long as you are looking along the beam, so its seen by you and a couple of friends standing next to you. With a green, even just the 30-40mw that I have, everyone can see the beam even from the side.

The red o-like gets hot pretty quickly too, i'm not sure what its recommended cycle time is. Using it for dedicated pointing will probably damage the laser.
