Well i managed to get my hands onto one of theese lasers. But when i plugged it in and turned it on. A werid shape showed up. i took it apart and notice a big bulb and some plasic thing with lens on it. But i did not want to play with it. ( HIGH VOLTAGE Signs O_O) This is laser is over 16 YEARS old!!!

Congrats! You have a helium-neon laser. These things are so cool when they are lit up, but if you touch the anode you're in for a shock. Do you have a power supply for it?

Nah just got the basic PC cord. But it is pretty good. Had to replace a fuse.

PSU is inbuilt. As potatorage said, thats a He-Ne laser, I suggest cleaning the optics... a picture of the output dot would be helpful :thinking:

I don't know alot about He-Ne lasers, but gas lasers sometimes need realignment. Not sure if this is the case though, so wait will the video is up and a more experienced member can confirm it!

Output optic is dirty.

Unplug it, discharge the anode(the side opposite the big silver cathode in the tube) with a wire or something to ground. Take a q-tip and some alcohol or acetone and gently clean the output lens.

looks like there is a shutter or beamstop on the output also, check for dust in there also.

Hey AUSBEN,

If you put a piece of card in between the end of the glass, 'plasma tube', (not bulb), and the small shutter at the front, do you see a nice small round dot? If you have a small amount of smoke in the air does it look like there's a tight beam in that same space too? If so then it may be the lens in the plastic assembly that is giving a large spot instead of allowing the collimated beam to exit untouched. If that's the case then try removing it. Be careful if you go to touch the tube, even after switching it off. It acts like a capacitor and can bite you even after lasing has stopped.

I can't see a video and, why is the word cancer in the thread title?

i had no idea why i put that in. i thought it was from a cancer laser thing O_O

I thought it might have been medical equipment. You can edit the title if you choose the edit button and then, "Go Advanced". Might prevent confusion.

I got it from work. It came out of a machiene that was put in the bin

I'm thinking about selling it on ebay. Anyone intrested?

Well in my Sig if it sais TTerbo- i made it but that dino direct laser i won from them, got to me no problems. shops like o-like,rayfoss,Wl all ship to aussies and make sure you get your laser.
