I am building a 445nm 1.4 watt laser and I currently have a 3 element glass lens. But in order to achieve 1.7-2watts, I need a 30% increase in power. Can you guys help me find a g2 lens that will fit my aixiz module. I will provide any specs at request. My budget is 40$. (can go to 45)

Yea but no offense to dtr (I actually think he's the best), but his lenses are a little too expensive for me. Anything a little more wallet friendly?

???

You said your budget can go to $45. DTR sells the lenses for $45. What more do you want? Maybe you want to pay jayrob $55 + shipping for one? You can buy the bare lenses, but they're about $25-$30 and you need to fit them in your own barrel.

Anyone please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe DTR has the cheapest price for a "G" lens in a barrel. You wont find it cheaper than this.

this whole entire build is based on trying to find the cheapest parts or saving money where ever possible. you asked advice on drivers and many people said to heat sink it but you didnt want to at first. you ask for cheapest place to get a G lens, someone gives you that as well but you want cheaper........idk if you realize this and not to completely shock you but this hobby is EXPENSIVE.

if you already bought the diode and module from DTR and did upgrade to the G2 lens there, then you just cost yourself $15. M140 w/ glass lens is $60, M140 w/ G2 is $90.....G2 lens is only $30 that way.

Just a little history on these...

The G2 from DTR is a few bucks cheaper than my G1 assembly, but it is not mounted the same...

That said, it's still a good set up for the price.

I spend quite a bit of extra time for the mounting of my set up, and thus, some extra cost...

I test compared the G2 vs G1 long ago before anybody knew about it, and if I had found that the G2 optic was any better in even the slightest way, then I would have switched over long ago. I was the one that tested the G2 for Will (lasers4u/laser66), and compared it with the G1. (see testing here)

Since I found no difference, I kept the same optic.

As the pictures in my thread show, the difference is in the way the optic is mounted. Here are the main reasons that I go through the extra work for my mount:

* Able to enlarge the entry aperture and allow more light from the diode into the lens
* Able to set the lens 'lower' in the nut, so that it can get closer to the diode if needed
* The lens is perfectly centered in the nut (if just mounting it in the retaining ring end of the nut, there is a possibility that it can get off center)

As you can imagine, there is a lot more work involved with the way I mount the lens.

* Machine the lens nut to fit the diameter of the lens
* Enlarge the entry aperture
* Make the custom sleeve/retainer tube that is shown in the picture below...

Cleaning:

One of the nice things about my assembly, is that it can be taken apart for cleaning if ever necessary.

Here's a picture showing the order of assembly and the lens orientation for re-assembly:

Thanks for that break down. Something to consider when I buy my G series in the future.

I was always under the impression that the G1 and G2 optic was the same, and it was the barrels that were different, are the lens' different?

Exact same lens design, different suppliers with similar AR coating...

Ok. Guess I'm going with DTR'S lens. What's the difference between the extended lens the normal ones?
Also how would I install it / replace my old lens?

Mhemling. Sorry about that.. My phone is not functioning properly and does not allow me to use the search. As for bagder, I don't need that cr@* on this thread. I am a beginning laser owner and here you are blabbing how stupid I am when it comes to lenses. I am sure you can all agree that everyone needs to learn sometime, and when that time comes, we don't need people telling us, "oh, if u don't know this, ur too dumb to own or make a laser". With all due respect badger, pi** off. As for ever one ellse, thanks for all ur help. I'll use the search bar when I get home to a properly functioning computer.
