Replace Lens to keep beam tighter?

Hello,

I am relatively new to the laser scene. Please excuse my lack of correct terminology.

I ordered a 200mW 532nm laser from Lazerer, and I am mostly happy with it. The only thing I don't like is how much the beam spreads over long distances (divergence?). I have the capability to adjust the lens, but seems that it is only adjustable to bring the "focus point?" closer to the aperture to help burn better. I am not really interested in burning, I only use the laser for outdoor pointing.

I took some pictures of the detachable lens section of the laser, and I'm looking for some help to find out if I can possibly replace or adjust the lens to keep the beam tighter. I am willing to purchase a new lens if that would help.

Thanks for any help.

Woah, Lazerer is still shipping lasers! Thought they just died all together recently. As for focusing, I am not sure why its divergence isn't the best. Have you experimented already by trying to aim at something far away and make the dot as small as possible? I am not sure how effective it is to focus by looking only at the beam but then again I have not owned a focusable laser before. Sorry I cant help much.

I do have one question about Lazerer, how long did it take from your laser to arrive? And was there any customer service at all? They have never answered my questions about some of their products.

This was my 3rd and last laser ordered from Lazerer, the past two were shipped promptly and arrived with no issue, but this one took them 28 days to ship, not to arrive, to ship. I emailed them and submitted requests on their site 4 or 5 times, and I only got one response saying "The laser will be shipped within 24 hours" after I threatened to dispute the charge on my credit card.

I have pointed it at a building far away and tried adjusting it, the dot only gets larger.

Ok. Sounds like Lazerer . I would think that if the lens was dirty or cracked, it would just have a distorted and slightly bigger dot. With your laser, they might have built it with a crooked focus cap or a manufacture defect. I am not exactly sure though, maybe you could find an experienced LFP member/vet to help you out.

How far away is the building? How big is the spot at that distance? Specifics always help.

Pictures might help too.

You need to adjust the lens holder itself, rather than the focusing knob on the outside. A pair of tweezers can be used to rotate the lens barrel inside the focuser housing. However there is a high probability that the lens holder will be glued into place so there is a risk of damaging your lens if (when) the tweezers slip.

Those spanners work really well, but are sharp. Slow and steady wins the race without any scratches all over their lens! Seriously, go slow, had one of these slip and completely ruin a very specific lens. Good luck!
