My knowledge on focusing and IR in DPSS labbies is sorely limited..
I have seen many but only the 1W 445 lab from AixiZ afaik was focusable and that required one to open the head..

ATM I am doing a review on a sample of a 1+W 532 Pro labby. It is just a 'prototype' and a very few were made. I suspect the cost was too high for JETL to get them made for re-sale-so the ones in stock(less than 20) may be all that JETL ever sells.

anyway..

it came afaik with NO IR filter- (meter dropped from ~1440 to 1050mWs when Ash placed his IR filter between the laser and the meters. .. JETL tells me that a filter will be added to the remaining stock.. so thats no longer an issue..

But the beam is on the fat side- at 2.6mm up close and a large but acceptable divergance( dont want to give you the measurments until I do a second testing)

My question is about this reply from JetL.

I wrote...

Most labs I have seen are prefocused at best setting so,,, I dont know more than that= focus is not needed if the focus is already best. We put the laser on a good meter and at 1440mw we placed an IR filter in front and power dropped to ~1050mW -

**the reply**
----I see. It's all jetlasers' fault not to add the ir filter to the 1w laser. i guess your testing is correct. 1040mw only. We will make sure all future 1Ws are 1050mw+, after the ir filter. Will add the ir filter to each. The ir filter run out and the new batch of glass ir filter is arriving at us.

----You are right. To have them prefocused is good while the thin or fat of the beam from aperture is determined by the collimating system within. Like some thin beam laser tends to have a bad divergence while some fat beam lasers have a low divergence also.

so... does this mean that to get a lower divergance the beam must be larger at apeture and if it is smaller at apeture will this automatically mean high divergance??

I am not wanting to open this laser up as it is for sale.. the 1yr warranty may be void if I do.. and I am not savvy enough to go inside ad make changes anway.

I will put up my review and the pricing asap- PM if you cant wait to get a +1W TTL/TEC 2 fans/ CW /near TEM00 (when warm and at full power)
for under $1K..waiting now on a complete data sheet PDF- meanwhile go to JETLASERS.org to see the listing under ' closeouts' any friend of Hak/member can get a 100$ discount from me.. ships for only $30. CONUS.

thanks in advance for the info--hak

edit update..

ALSO I failed to mention that this labby is HUGE- has 29mm base to beam-- and there is an adjustment knob that allows it to be underdriven - and a TTL port with a included plug to wire the ttl to your build. While its a shame that these samples were not made with analog modulation also that MAY be something that SOME here could change themselves-
If I end up owning one of these I may just use it for a one(or two) color PJ- 3W of teal would be sweet-- I have all needed to make a dual 445 with two 445 M series diodes and a a Pro combiner kit. P3 driver sitting in a drawer just waiting for me to find time.

Divergence is inversely proportional to initial beam diameter yes. A smaller beam diameter at the aperture means larger overall divergence.

Like electrofreK said. Larger beam profile leads to better divergence overall and the fact that your laser is likely multimode would also increase that factor to a degree depending on what modes it hops to. The 1W units (at least the cheaper 700-1k$ ones are multimode) Im not sure about better quality ones.
