Does anyone know where one might aquire lenses and diffraction gratings that you could fit onto the larger diameter portable lasers like the RPL, PGL, etc? I recently purchased a >200mw S-KY from the group buy and Im looking for some optics that can fit on the end without me having to hold it there by hand.

Drats. I checked all the sites listed in that sticky and the only thing I found that was close to what Im looking for was a line generating attachment for HeNe lasers, but that attaches to the front via 4 screws that definitely will not be drilled into my laser. I guess Ill have to suck it up and use that blue tack stuff to stick nova's optics on the front.

..unless they start selling a holder that will attach their optics to the ~38mm apertures of the larger models. *cough's in our resident nova rep's general direction* ;)

I could always make you one on my CNC!
SenKat and I are in the process of making some custom acrylic holders for his diffraction gratings.

Do you live in the UK?

Nice! I read somewhere that SenKat made them, but I didn't see them on his site. I was looking for something like the nova mega matrix.

I live in the US.

hey danielbriggs im in yorkshire - england. let me know about the latest on the holders.
it can b a real pain trying to experiment using lenses/diffraction gratings by hand when using an RPL.
wots the easiest/most convenient way to hold these lenses when focusing the beam?

What nova laser has a 38mm aperture?

Well, the end where the aperture is, I mean. Most of the microphonish looking portables like CNI have 38mm diameter heads, so neither of the nova lens holders or diffraction grating sizes will fit on there.

Im surprised no one has hopped on the ball and designed something that will accomplish the task. There might be a small market for such a thing. Or maybe most people wouldnt use a 300mw laser to do that?

Oh...the head.I could probably do that, I have a lathe in the basement. To bad I don't have enough money to buy a CNI lase :'(

I think that's it. ;)
I would just got to Home Depot and find some crap that I could use to make one (for as close to zero dollars as I could get)!
I made a convex lens/flat lens holder for my X105 out of a piece of rubber and a Dremel.

Yeah, I guess I could probably do that with my dremel, myself. If I can carve a set of landing skids and main rotor blades for an RC heli with my little 2 speed, Im sure I could make a lens holder. =)

If I can just get over the laziness..

If the aperture/laser head is magnetic (probably not... Aluminum isn't magnetic) you could make a magnetic lens holder. But that only works if they have some Iron in there somewhere... or at least enough for a magnet to stick.

Ah, that will work wonderfully if it happens to be magnetic. I could one of those flat refrigerator magnets into a circle and a hole in the center, place the grating on the head and 'lock' it there with the magnet. Lenses would be a different story. Hmm..
