Thanks. I thought it might be the same as the NDB7875. I just couldn't confirm that.

I've been messing around with the OPT 6X pair AND it works very well all by it's self but I still have more testing to do.

I put a flip lid cover on it to keep the dust out when it's not being used, I just have to remember to flip it open BEFORE turning the laser on.....

Nice.
I've ordered some more glass to test. I have to try two more combinations before i settle. Hope they come today or tomorrow so I can test tomorrow evening at work.

I really like OPT's lenses, The extra fat glass makes them much easier to work with !

All so you might try the LSP 4X lens first (don't forget to turn the lens around) and the OPT second and do some tests as this seems to work pretty good as well.....

Default Re: OPT Lasers Cylindric lenses - NUBM44 beam correction tests

Hello all,
I have been monitoring this thread off and on for some time now. I have a 4x lens pair from Lasershow Parts that I have been experimenting with using a NUBM44 diode. I just purchased a 6x pair from OPT Lasers and will be experimenting with that pair as well as combinations of the two. Once I get some results I will add to this thread so we will have more data to work with

One question - where are you getting those small metal rulers from? I have been printing paper rulers and taping them down to my lens mounting surface but figured the metal ones would be a better way to go.

Hi Cenobite9

you can get them on Amazon in different widths, lengths and increments. I wouldn't pay more than 10$ for one. Better ones you can buy from machine shop stores.

here is an example of super cheap pair from Amazon.

I wonder about the flexibility of those cheap Amazon rulers. The heavier gauge the metal the less flexible and that is what you want.

I use the stiff stainless steel ones, They are harder to cut but if you have a Dermal with a cut off wheel you'll slice right through any ruler.....

Flexing is not an issue. But as I said, choose your own particular ruler. There are a lot of different thicknesses and widths that can accommodate your setup.

I say there is no flexing because you will cut the ruler to only 5-6cm long, at which length you are already pretty stiff to begin your setup. Then when you put one on top of optics as well as the bottom, and than slide it inside the tube with just the right size hole - you are solid!

I bought a dremel several years ago with hundreds of cutting, boring, grinding, polishing, drilling and other attachments that it can do most everything a dremel can. It is great for getting into small places to fashion a piece exactly the way you want it.

I don't know what I would do without my dremel !

This is the lens arrangement I'm using now and it works GREAT with my focusable convex lens setup !

Default Re: OPT Lasers Cylindric lenses - NUBM44 beam correction tests

A bit of a update date sort of, I think I may be on to something, I've made a custom beam expander that uses two lenses from some camera lenses that were kicking about plus I'm using a LSP concaved 4X cyl lens along with a fixed OPT convex cyl lens for fast axis correction, And after some quick tests, First at true 50 feet the beam dot size seems to be very close to the same size as it is when it leave the beam expander ?

this is the beam shape without the beam expanders convex lens

And this is the shape of the spot from across the room, it isn't focuesed to show the spot shape which is farily evenly square, Although the convex focusing lens may look small I'm sure there is no clipping going on inside from the BE.....

At 20 feet I can focus it down to a tiny dot that makes for some crazy burning ! It's focused by sliding the convex lens housing forwards and backwards......

At infinity focus this setup has the smallest dot to date !

Nice, looks like you got a good bite on it.
The center is the best part of the rectangle, even a little edge clipping is not a big deal as long as you get all of the center.

See how it burns first and fastest in this unfocused spot, it always does with these diodes.
Of course zoomed down tight the orange spot is so bright it drowns out everything else and throws a nice flame in wood, the trick is getting it tight and hot enough to obliterate the charcoal, this is one reason industrial laser cutters use compressed air to blow ash out of the lasers way.

With your sanwu BE how small can you get your dot at 50 feet ?

I'm going to make one more custom beam expander using these two lenses (shown in the palm of my hand for scale) With these lens set at around 95mm to 100mm to bring the beam to a point at distance the beam almost fills the large lens !

This one is really going to be able reach out a touch some stuff at a hug disetance

Looks like I'm going to need ElectricPlasma's 3D printing services which all starts with me drawing up a diagram for him.......
