Is there any difference in quality though, or are they the exact same modules?

I've noticed that most aixiz and similar modules offer a good fit for the diode socket, but that the outside diameter of the module itself has rather large tolerances.

As far as shipping speed is concerned i am impressed with aixiz though. Even though they ship from the states to euopre (where i am), they tend to be much faster than most asian companies like o-like or dx. Things ordered from aixiz tend to be here within the week, while those from asian vendors often take roughly 3 weeks.

I suppose its well under $1 each for the blank when produced by the million.

DX sells them including a 5 mW laser diode and driver for $3.18 if you order 10 or more. I'm sure that will come down well under $3 if you order 100 pcs or so, and that is including the 5 mW stuff.

The actual cost to AixiZ is not just what Chuck pays china for them-- he has employees in Houston to pay- insurance-taxes- overhead involved with a place to do biz from-etc- he tells me he pays thousands every month to eekbay and PP-

- I dont think he makes much on each one-- but on the 2,000 he sends out world-wide each month it surely adds up.

If they were being made in Texas the china sellers would have to charge more to get them imported there--just the opposite from the way it is. If you want to send your $ to china instead of here in the US then dont blame others for the imbalance in trade.

your choice-- if you want them from me in 5 days I get 24$ per 10 pack shipping included--(Basically a GB))

if you want them for 20$ (plus what O=Like charges for shipping) send me the money but I plan to hold it for 2 weeks before I send them--that way it will be the SAME as if you got them from O-Like --OK?

I don't understand why anyone would care if it is 100% profit. If it is a good price then buy it if not don't. 10 modules for $24 is a great deal in my opinion and is the same as what O-Like charges after shipping as well and with that option you wait 2 weeks. No Brainer. :sold:

In the end it doesnt matter that much at all. Living in europe its a simple choice though - get them a bit more expensive from the US in 1 week, or a bit cheaper from asia in 2 weeks.

Since i tend to keep a couple of these modules in stock i tend to go for the latter option since it saves money and there is no hurry. When ordering laser diodes and such from the US i prefer them installed in a module to avoid damage during shipping i'm happy to pay the $1 or $2 premium for the module... not because i need the module, but because it adds a lot of abuse-proofing to the laser diode.

I ordered these and they finally arrived yesterday.

Overall, the quality isn't as good as AixiZ, though not too far behind - the most obvious thing I noticed is that the threads are fairly rough. The measurements are close to the AixiZ version, though they aren't quite identical.

The lenses are similar to what AixiZ offers now, though they are closed back. I've not tested the output of the lens to see how it compares. Mounting the lens to the focusing ring is somewhat uncomfortable because of the plastic lens housing and the rough threads. Nothing has been damaged so far, but taking your time with these seems to be a good idea.

Overall, these seem workable (especially if you are looking to minimize the cost of a build) but aren't quite the same quality level.

If the inventory numbers listed on their site are to be believed, I think I was the first person to order these.

So...these cost you 24$ correct?-- wow thats how much you would pay for the better aiXiz ones and you would have had them in 4 biz days. And the profits would go to pay employees in Houston-- not china. dont see much "(...looking to minimize the cost of a build) but aren't quite the same quality level." --true??

Last time I ordered from AixiZ, it was $28/shipped where the o-like version was $24/shipped. So the difference is only $4 or $0.40 per unit. It's not a big difference but if you are looking at making a profit, $0.40 per unit can add up in quite a hurry. At this point, the money isn't really an issue for me, but that could change and it may indeed be an issue for others here.

As to the shipping time; I still had plenty of AixiZ modules when I ordered from o-like so I really didn't care how long it took (and I knew I could order more from AixiZ if I ran out). The point is quite valid though, you can't always wait a month.

As to quality, I think that was something of an unknown - if my guess about the inventory numbers are right, I was the first person to order after they were listed. I wanted to see how they compared, and I found my answer.

I do try to keep money local when I can - eating at locally owned restaurants and buying from locally owned stores. With that said though I do look around for better products - sometimes local makes sense, sometimes it doesn't; though I do try to give local the first opportunity.

Overall, the o-like modules are slightly cheaper but lower quality; because of that lower quality I don't expect to be ordering more of them. I wanted to see what they had to offer and for some saving the $0.40/each may be worth it.

So far I like the all products I have from AixiZ, so don't worry, they haven't lost me as a customer :)

If anybody is interested, I uploaded some detailed pictures of these modules; should make it a little easier to compare.

It's hard to see in the picture, but the bottom piece of the module has a rougher, less polished texture than AixiZ modules. For me at least, this is the easiest way to tell them apart when fully assembled.

[Sorry for the double post, seeing as it's been a few days since my last post, it seems appropriate to post again instead of editing the last one.]
