Noob Question on Aixiz lenses

Grabbed an Aixis kit with:

1 - AixiZ module case including ring, acrylic lens, spring, diode mount and end case
1 - 405-455nm 1W compatible driver board
1 - AR coated specialty AixiZ lens for 405-455nm laser diodes

Currently using 1x18650 host with focusable head. I switched out the stock lens. I now have 2 Aixiz lenses: 1 long, 1 short, 1 spring. I'm not using the aixiz housing at all. My questions are:

- Which lens is which
- Do you use them in series?

Thanks

The AR coated specialty AixiZ lens for 405-455nm laser diodes is made of glass. You should always use this lens for 445nm build.

The stock lens is made of plastic with an acrylic lens. The black plastic barrel will melt under moderate to high power builds.

Use only the long metal lens barrel and not in series.

As Blord said only use the glass lens with the 445 it will be in the longer metal barrel.

Thanks, guys, exactly what I was looking for. I love you guys and your willingness to help. I even love the forum nazis :) If I may ask another noob question - all was well with this host until I started screwing around with the lenses: which way is which on the glass AR lens?

Thanks again!

the stock(& un-uaseable for 445) AixiZ lens is in a plastic housing- the glass has a metal case-- pretty easy to tell them apart, the plastic case is a shinnier black and feels like plastic.
There is only one way it goes so if you donot see what you like try turning it around.

if you want to avoid using the spring you can add a TINY iece of teflon tape to the threads.. BUT if even the smallest piece gets in between the lens and the diode you will see something other than the boxy 'sport' and as you run it longer the tape will melt and maybe ruin the back element of the lens or get on the die window and damage that or worst of all do both. So keep all that in mind.

Glad you took my advice and joined us here--- friending you now and adding you to my long list of peeps. I am here for you. I know AixiZ appreciates your business.
Put up some pics of your build and its beams.. Len

PS the 'sweet' spot where you get the best focus can be sometimes hard to find at first. So adjust the focus towards smaller spot and watch for the spot to again grow larger, then back it up til its right. When you get close make very small adjustments( AND dont burn your fingertips!!)<- I turn mine off when turning the lens -- the EZ focus knobs are a must for high power and unburnt fingers.

Use a conservative duty/rest cycle. Personally I run mine (like yours) for no more than 60 second on with a rest of 30 seconds- If the outside parts are warm that means the 'innards' are very hot.

Thanks, Hak!!

Sorry to be such a noob, but if I ask enough noob questios, I'll eventually transcend that status:

Everything was fine with this laser before I started screwing with the lenses.
Here's what I got:
attachment.php

From left to right: AixiZ acrylic stock lens, stock lens that came with 500mw 405nm cheapo pointer, AixiZ glass lens, top thing that will not screw back on, host head, host.

Here's a top shot:
attachment.php

Now I have two noob questions on this:
1.) The AixiZ glass lens obviously goes in a certain way. One side is recessed, one is not. Which way is which?
2.) What should I do with the POS lens cap thing that won's screw back on? is it necessary?

Thanks AGAIN!

Wow!! that 405 half-thread has taken a beating.

the metal case 400-450 nm on the right looks like the top is the end you want away from the diode. The other ring is your ez focus knob- use it if you can-- this may require you to do a little 'fiddling' as you want the lens to be positioned correctly- if screwed too far into the laser body OR the ez ring you may be too close or too far from the diode to focus like you want- teflon tape is good for a tight fit- but take exteme care to use only enough to get a good fit and that none is anywhere except on the threads- check your work with a loop to see if any of the tape is not where it should be,, you will want to use that knurled ring if you possibly can- if not other custom ez focus rings can be gotten from members that will work..GL
