I thought it would be kinda cool to get an old analog walkman and hook up some mirrors to old walkman motors.

Has anyone ever done something like this or used weird stuff like that to power the movement of the laser? Seems like some shower glass would also be cool.

What you are referring to is usually known as a "spirograph" or "spiro". We tend to use fan motors and cell phone vibrator motors as they are small, cheap (sometimes free, found in junk) and turn fast.

Here is a little diagram I drew. If you make several of these (usually 2 or 3) and make the laser shine from one, to the 2nd (then 3rd if you have one) it will create some very cool patterns, especially if you attach speed controllers to the motors.

anyways, I have used CD drive motors, relays, solenoids & speakers to make mirrors move.

so walkman motors could be used also.

Take an old long stroke woofer and cement a small piece of mirror to it, the laser beam will jump all over.

I found one of my old toys, I'll go photo it now.

Back in the day, I would point my HeNe at these and feed an oscillating signal to them.

JB weld works wonders, those 2 mirrors have been glued to that clutch solenoid for 20++ years now.
