The x3 expander is build to fit 7A75 7475 copper host hanheld beause the beam and dot size from these two diode through the G2 lens is not impressive. So I gathered some projector lenses to build a beam expander. Three lenses were used to make this.

Cracking down parts from projector:

The power loss with G2 lens and the beam expander itself is only about 95% as 7475,roughly 300mw loss as 7A75 with G1(6.2W->5.9W).

The first eyepiece lens would diverge the light but the focal distance would be so long and wide.

O-rings with different thickness were used to fill up each gap from lens to lens to achieve perfect focal function.

So there is the middle lens it would collimate the beam into a shorter focal distance.

Installing the objective lens that exclusive coated for green light to bunch the laser light.

It can be also found inside laser projector.

At the tail, o-ring is added below the eyepiece lens frame to make sure the structure is fixing tight.

Finished!

LPM showing the output is pretty close with the expander mounted and without.

With the x3 beam expander the 7A75's beam looks so great:

Dot comparison with the 7875 handheld. With the beam expander the 7A75's beam profile would act like the 7875:

Sorry for the pictures quality ,as you may knows they were all taken by my Z ultra only.:na: Wish I would buy a better setup.

Nice work Podo

Re: Custom Mini x3 beam expander for 7A75 & 7475 Handheld

if you could make these to fit aixiz modules (looks like it does now), I bet you could sell a lot of them. others may be interested to know where you got the parts and want more detailed instructions. looks tempting to me, i have a 7A75 build using a g lens, your beam certainly looks better. hard to have too many lens choices. the optical losses of your green are very acceptable. I went with a JL 520 for my 1W 520. I didnt want to overdive such a costly diode at all. i told them to drive it at it's rated current which is probably why mine only does about 980mW after 15 seconds or so of >1W output. you have some nice units there, sleek. the losses after jl's 10X BE are not as forgiving...

Nicely presented--really nice expander!

Confused by this as you show 2 units. Are both the green and blue using this same beam expander?

Also want to know about making more of these as Shakenawake asked. Is this something you have the parts readily available for or more of a one off thing?

Wow, that looks really nice! And you made it look so easy. +rep.

Very nice- and a wonderfully seamless fit onto your host as well! You say you got all the optics from a projector, but which one? I still have the remnants of 2 445nm diode based projectors sitting around.

Swing'in now !! I have tinkered with beam expanders....just a little....
The optics are more forgiving vs. beam correction.

I must say...an expanded beam is impressive with it's bar-like geometry....but the trade off is less energy density = a lower luminosity.

IMNSHO...An expanded beam wins over a standard beam with a fair amount of particulate in the air.... Nice work on the DIY Podo !!!

Always rewarding when a plan comes together !!!!

Speaking of Beam Correction....I must update my EZ thread

Fantastic work! You should really consider selling them ;)

Mind sharing what that 6W red on your sig is? I'm very, very curious!

The coacted lens basically will let the 445nm passes through too.

This is a X5 expander I made in another day, Here's a better inner-structure and components to show and still the power loss is only about 5%:

Those lenses came from a Casio A140 projector to be clear. I don't know if you may find suitable lenses in other projector but I would say it's difficult to find a middle lens has a short focal distance.

More and more to come:

Damn...looking at your first post,I realize those where the only optics I tossed....not sure why I did, but I wish I hadnt! I may have scratched them trying to get them out of their plastic holder, I remember not being able to free some set of optics similar to that.

The first one was nice but the second is awesome!

Really excellent work !

Very nice, lasers with expanders are awesome, it amazes me how far they can go without spreading very much with one.

A laser workshop sells their 7875 3w handheld where the diodes were removed from a projector. So whatever left in the projector, I told them to sell it to me with a fair price.

Imo It might more to come.....will see

Which model of projector? If it's the common one which starts with a "C", just PM me.
